andreasmaureder: To restore the original music in Mafia II download this files and overwrite the files in your Mafia II folder with it!
nice one. however, this is missing modified speech segments from radio (ones including licensed songs) as well as the original credits music

//EDIT: for a version including both modified radio speech and credits music see here: http://www89.zippyshare.com/v/Z1vg9ArR/file.html

Thanks for music fix!
Can you tell is it multi-language or English version only?

english only. only relevant for the radio broadcasts tho, rest should be language-independent. if this is a problem, stay with the version from andreasmaureder, the music in the radio broadcasts are not that relevant (basically music plays, gets interrupted, newscaster speaks. in the cut versions the newscaster speaks directly, no music before that. so no big deal).
Why does anybody download executable files from unknown sources? Easiest way to get trojan horses or viruses...
Hmm... For Mafia II, also found this one: https://mafiamods.com/mods/mafia-ii-uncut-radio/
There is a link to a mediafire.com file that is about 740MB in size, a lot bigger than the zippyshare.com files...
I am going to check it out, at least. I've got a quality virus protection installed so I think I'm covered.
Hopefully it's not some stupid hack and it's alright to include it in the game...

The smaller file restores the songs cut from the game after release. The 740MB file adds songs that were cut from the game before release.

Okay... Thanks. Now I really don't know how to feel about it, starting to feel it that file might not be safe to share, legally.
I mean it's one thing to restore content to a game that later removed it, but those are songs that were meant to be in the release, but weren't - what does that mean from an end-user/gamer point of view... :)

Note: While music tracks played originally during driving sections may be restored, scripted tracks originally played during specific missions, appear not to be. E.g. the band on the boat during the mission 'Happy Birthday!' may appear to dance and sing but remain silent to the removed background track.

Does this method address this issue?
Thank you both for this tutorial and file repair. For me, the GoogleDrive was the faster download (6Mb/s vs 1Mb/s).

I recall watching Kilg0re_Tr0ut play this on twitch and knew I wanted to get this game. He mentioned the "music troubles" and so I looked for this post.

Thanks again :)

mwnn: Here's a list of files that have been altered in the GOG release of MAFIA:
https://pastebin.com/cm489NEb

METHOD 1 - English version - Copy original files from discs

> Delete the SOUNDS folder from C:\GOG GAMES\MAFIA
> Download the following archive from MEGA or GOOGLE DRIVE:
https://mega.nz/#!ilYHFI5I!TBkB0e05WxvkO4-_BtVZJkuuNoNIGF8Ac5vpVP3EtMw
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx_3QB-krnyDMTFQbDFYaFNRb2M/view?usp=sharing

> Extract into your installation folder i.e. C:\GOG GAMES\MAFIA
It's another self extracting 7zip archive. I've included A0.DTA (Sound FX) and AB.DTA (Music)
http://www.kamalook.de/Mafia/DTA.html

METHOD 2 - Should be Multi-lingual - Replace just affected music tracks with corrected ripped music tracks
Thanks to andreasmaureder for posting this

Foreign speakers will want to use just the corrected music tracks:
http://www93.zippyshare.com/v/R4HPmjMg/file.html

> Extract the archive.
> Copy the extracted SOUNDS folder over the existing SOUNDS folder in the MAFIA folder.
> English users can use this too if they wish.
I did method 1 but i have like 4 music tracks maybe during driving a car. No radio speakers, nothing. I'm playing on english version and I don't why it is like this.
This restores missing song in prison showers in mafia 2. Found it on speedruns discord

Has it really been several YEARS since I last wrote the instructions?!?
I've included the two files for MAFIA II from the post above - well spotted.
I've re-checked the original steam release against the GOG release and found 21 missing files for MAFIA II including the two changes from above. Plus a few other changes in the dlcs folder which I don't believe are significant:
https://imgur.com/EVfqggh

I thought I'd upload some new links for both MAFIA and MAFIA II

Restoring the music for MAFIA

-Option 1- (English Language)

Delete the sounds folder
Download the missing DTA FILES:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1pMq_3uWc3MQk_f_5ENmACoB_WQi-FcQ-

Extract the archive and copy the files alongside the other DTA files i.e. a1.dta, a2.dta, etc

-Option 2- (Multi-lingual?)
Download the missing music tracks:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1C785U7_BV4x3OKt2linFnsJqWwC8a5qw
Extract the archive and overwrite the sounds folder

Restoring the music for MAFIA II (English Language)

Download the missing/changed music files:

Extract the archive and overwrite the pc folder
I've included a list of changed files with their MD5sums.

Just wanted to say thank you for this. I recently went looking to buy Mafia (again!), but wasn't going to because of the soundtrack issue. I have now bought the game on GOG and reinstated the original soundtrack and it's just great that you took the time and trouble to help others.
