I've always wondered this, what are the alien buildings/vehicles for in MAX? Can you harness them for your side?

Yes you can - if you use the (I think its called) infiltrator unit or possibly the hacker (its the unit you use to take over enemy units) you can take the alien units over just like you would a normal enemy unit.
As they are alien they have some bonuses over the standard units open to you and free units on the battle field are always good to have

Yes - use an infiltrator to steal the alien craft. You cannot steal the buildings.
FYI - you cannot upgrade alien units. However, they automatically gain in experience (and ability) the more you use them. The attack planes are particularly useful as they act as fighters & ground attack planes.

No, not to my knowledge - the only purpose they serve is to 'park' the alien vehicles around.
