Hello panosl,

I'm sorry that you're unable to activate Misfortune's glitter sprinkling with the "Y" key on your MS XBox wireless controller.

I don't have a Mac computer, nor a XBox Wireless controller to test your configuration with. I'll ask the rest of the developer team if they have a configuration of hardware like yours to test with and post again later.

In the meantime, I offer these suggestions (which may or may not be helpful to you):

Reboot your Mac if you haven't done so since you installed the game on it and try again to see if the situation improves.

Can you use your XBox controller in wired mode to play? This site: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-controller-is-both-wired-and-wireless/1100-6409392/ seems to indicate that is possible, but I'm not sure if your controller is exactly the same as shown in this article. I also understand that playing with a cable may not suit your preferences.

Can you disconnect and reconnect your controller and then try again? May not help, but it might be quick to try.

If you have any other devices (that aren't critical to running your Mac like a keyboard or wireless card) connected to USB or via wireless, can you try to disconnect them to see if that helps. This is Windows advice, but if its convenient to try for you, it might rule out a device conflict. Although why only one key doesn't work is strange.

On the Windows version of the program setting the Controller in the "Options"/Input menu to "Gamepad" still allows you to use keyboard commands. Can you try the "F" key on your Mac keyboard to sprinkle glitter? Again, I realize this may not suit your preference, but it may work while we see if we can test your configuration and post again.

If that doesn't work, the option to play with Keyboard only ("F" key to sprinkle glitter) or Mouse + Keyboard ("F" key or "primary mouse click" on Misfortune to sprinkle glitter will then work) is another work-around while we investigate.

It's difficult to further troubleshoot without having your same configuration to test with, but I'll post again as soon as possible about whether we'll be able to suggest something else.

I'm sorry for the trouble you're having.

Hello again panosl,

I've now checked with the development team. Since everyone is working from home now, and because the XBox controllers and the one Mac computer are in different places, testing soon is not going to happen.

It's not clear to me if the issue affects all users with your configuration or if there is something that can be changed on your computer to cause the "Y" controller button to sprinkle glitter. Please do let me know about the results of your troubleshooting as discussed in my first post to you.

There is software for Mac computers that allows for remapping of controller buttons, but you may not want to go to that trouble, and since the links I've found are Mac specific (no Windows version of that software), I cannot test that software either.

Here is the link I found: https://github.com/360Controller/360Controller/releases (.dmg file and other guides are on the bottom of the page at this link).

You may also be able to find other software that maps your Controller buttons to keyboard commands. Here is one such software for Macs which might do the job: https://joystickmapper.com/. There is a cost for this app from the Mac app store, and I can't say for sure if this software will work for you or not. The page suggests that you can map controller buttons to keyboard commands, so if you purchase this software, you would want to map the "Y" button or some other unused button on your controller (if for some reason, the "Y" button no longer works) on your controller to "F" on a keyboard. The page also says it works with USB wired or bluetooth controllers, but I'm not sure if your controller is 2.4 GHz or bluetooth wireless. I have no experience with this app and if you decide to purchase it, your purchase and use of it is at your own risk for usefulness.

If you find that the work-arounds I suggested are not satisfactory, or don't work, a refund from GOG is another possibility: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000487189-GOG-COM-Money-Back-Guarantee-Policy?product=gog

I'm sorry that I cannot give a more definitive answer now.

Hello Brian, thanks for getting back to me.

This is the controller I'm using:
https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/el-gr/products/gaming/xbox-controller-cable-for-windows

and indeed I'm using the opensource:
https://github.com/360Controller/360Controller/releases

to handle it (in wired mode).

All games work properly, for some reason Little Misfortune is the only one that is giving me trouble. It doesn't even support the cross/pad properly for moving, you are only supposed to use the left stick controller.

You suggestion of pressing F to use the glitter works, thank you. But I'm playing for the couch so this is not an option, having to get up just to press that on a wired keyboard :)

I'm attaching the mappings of what each click on the controller sends. If the devs can use that to map the clicks to the appropriate behavior (for the pad/cross also) without the need to buy a controller. I can use a logger to see what is being tracked when I press them. I'd be more than happy to beta test it for you.

I'd really like to keep the game and play it, seems like a great product, but for the things I mentioned above if that can't be amended I'd have to return it. Let me know if I can help further (either by providing a log of the buttons clicked and outputted or anything so this can be fixed).

Thanks again for your thorough post!

Hello again panosl,

Thanks for your reply and the screenshot of your XB1 controller mappings.

Please try this/these remapping(s):

Remap the "Y" mapping to show input 13. Then play the game and try sprinkling glitter with the "Y" button (once Misfortune has the glitter bottle).

This will likely affect what you used the "B" button for earlier in the game (like in the secret hiding spot) as well as later when the game directs you to use the "B" button. If so, remap the "B" mapping to 10. This may fix any "B" button interactions in the game.

Please do reply to let me know if this/these remapping(s) fix the issue with "Y" button, and perhaps issues with the "B" button in the game.

As for the D-Pad (cross/pad) to control Misfortune's moving in the game world: that wasn't programmed into the game and isn't likely to be anytime soon (if ever). If you feel that you must have the use of the D-Pad to move Misfortune and don't find the left stick to be an acceptable alternative, then please do consider a refund of the game as you suggested in your last post. I do hope you won't consider that necessary, but I didn't want to mislead you about the D-Pad issue.

I believe the "Y" button issue will be solved with the remappings mentioned above. But please know too, that we haven't tested these changes yet (because of the working from home issues and not having the Mac and XB1 controller together in the same space), but believe they will solve the issue after reading available documentation. We'll continue to work on the "Y" button issue if these suggestions don't help, but please know too that further resolution will be delayed until work from home is over.

I appreciate your patience, and for your kind words about the game despite your controller issues. Please do let us know if the remappings worked for you.

Thanks.
