I had the first chapter on Steam, which I think I'd gotten free at some point.

Seeing this on sale at GOG, I grabbed it.

The GoG version won't launch. I tried deleting the Steam version, deleting the ".../Documents/My Games/Life is Strange" folder and deleting/re-installing the GoG version. Still no luck. The Logs/UE3AutoReportDump0000.txt file is empty.

I think there's a good chance it's not actually a Steam/GoG conflict, but I'm guessing that the only thing that's slightly unusual in my setup.

If anyone else had launch problems (especially if solved:-), please tell us about it.

Yeah same issue here, I would hate to have to get a refund was looking forward to playing. i too have the first episode from steam but it shouldnt matter right? ill delete it anyway.
Update: The Windows event log says that the game crashed because it could not access some file. However, there's no indication of what the file path is.

I ran the game via windbg to try to get more info. My programming expertise is more Unix and Linux, so I'm not sure what I'm looking at, but it looks like a bad memory access. Wierd!

Inside the executable, some of the text mentions Steam....

I'm using GoG Galaxy 2.0 (but the game also fails if launched directly).
I do not have Steam integrated into GoG Galaxy.

FWIW, I'm running Win 8.1

Looks like ill be getting a refund then theres no way to play this.
Yup... it's doing it to me as well. Same bug to report.
I am also having tthis issue.

When trying to run it on Windows 10 it won't launch.

When going into windows explorer to launch I get:

The code execution cannons proceed because MSVCR110.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

I reinstalled and it didn't work.

Okay researching it on my own here is your answer.

Redownload Microsoft Visual Studio.

Repair Microsoft Visual Studio

It fixes the DLL that is needed to run it.

Ugh, sorry comrade. It worked fo me. I downloaded the x86 version of the Viritual Studio. Sorry it's not working.
Hello together, I have the same problem.
However, I have noticed that Windows Firewall or any other Security Center tool prevents the software from writing to system partitions.

However, allowing the process to be retrospective does not bring any improvement. Unfortunately, I don't know how to turn everything off at once, and then gradually activate every single security system to find out which is preventing the game from starting properly.

If you have any idea pls let us know
Same problem here too. Just throws up a generic error window and won't go beyond that. Tried the earlier suggestion of re-downloading Microsoft Visual Studio but to no avail. Will contact support but a shame that a problem this big was allowed to slip through on release :(

I have windows 7 and experienced the same problem. Opening the Event Viewer\Windows Registries\Application, you can see that the system can't access to the program. I think that the GOG version have same issues with privileges
I scanned my drives. I already have 19 copies of msvcr110.dll installed including some from Visual Studio.

The 19 files are not all the same. Some are 32-bit and some are 64-bit. But that's not the only difference. Using checksums, I can see that I have two different versions of the 32-bit dll and four different versions of the 64-bit dll.

I tried copying both versions of the 32-bit dll into the ...//Life is Strange/Binaries/Win32/ folder. No luck, but one of the two results in a new error message about that dll missing a symbol (which only proves that msvcr110.dll is indeed needed and copying a different version into the game folder will cause that dll copy to be used).
I looked on the Steam forums for any issues and they seem all over the place in terms of fixes (one person said the issue fixed itself when they unplugged there headset).

I'll post a few possible fixes here:

My game did start however I got hit with the UI bug were items don't highlight when you aim at them, was able to fix it by switching to window mode.
