I just found out ScummVM is now supporting LOL. Has anyone tried it? Does it have some advantage compared to DosBox?

I've just tried it. In ScummVM you have autosave, but you can't remap keys (I have a laptop without numepad and with crappy arrow keys, so I prefer WASD).

Quick howto:
1. mount "Lands of Lore 1\game.dat" as virtual cd.
2. open scummVM and point it to "DATA" directory on your mounted CD.

WASD is being discussed by the ScummVM developers, so it may well be implemented in a future version. For now, the DOSBox version is more useful (Press CTRL+F1 to remap the keys to your liking)

By the way, I noticed the following keyboard commands, are there any more?
F1-F3: character 1-3 attacks
/ (forward slash on american keyboards): cycle through spells

You can press 'R' to rest.

Thanks, I'll put that in the "Word of advice to first time players" thread.

Hey, I'm sorry if I misunderstood, but did you remap the keys in DOSbox? And if so, would you mind clarifying how to do so? I'd rather use WASD, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it.
Thanks!

Launch game and press ctrl+f1 - it will open new window with keyboard mappings.
Click on the key you want to remap (for example numpad "8") - it will turn green. Then click on "Add" button and press the key you want to use (for example "w"). Repeat until you remap all the keys, then click "Save" and "Exit".
I want to play on my laptop which does not have a numpad. How am I supposed to map the WASD keys then? Damn it, turning with the mouse is just tedious :(

edit: I got it!

press up key on the screen
press add,
press w on your real keyboard.
should work.

I've been experimenting with scummvm on android and am pleased to say LoL runs smoothly on android and is very playable.

- Install ScummVM from the android market
- Install the kyra plugin for ScummVM
- Change the touchscreen to "direct mode" using the instructions on http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Android
- Follow the instructions in the second post in this thread to get LoL running. Just copy the /data folder to your sd card, then point ScummVM to that folder.
- Have fun :)

Direct mode lets you push all the buttons directly on screen, so mouse emulation doesn't get in the way. Since LoL conveniently has onscreen movement buttons on the left side of the screen, moving around feels really natural. It's very nice to play on my galaxy S2, I imagine that on a tablet it must be even better,

Yes I can confirm it works really great on a tablet, recently played through it on my Asus TF101 tablet with Ak-Shel on ScummVM. Didn't have any problems at all, and the onscreen buttons work really great on the tablet, they pretty much have the right size even for my huge fingers :)

How do you mount the game.dat file as a virtual CD? Is there a way to extract from the file?

Easiest is indeed extracting the game.dat file, just open it with your favorite zip or iso extracor (the free 7-zip, besides being awesome, works great for that job). Extract the whole thing to a subdirectory, copy it to your device and then just point ScummVM to that directory. Works flawlessly like that for me.

mount -o loop game.dat /mnt/cdrom

....

Oh, did you mean in Windows? You have to use some program for that - like Daemon Tools Lite or Alcohol 52%.
I am running the game on my galaxy note 10.1. Game starts fine (thanks for the posters above!) but I was wondering: is there a way to get rid of the bottom menu bar? the direct mode targeting doesn't work properly with it as it messes up the exact mouse position (best description i have is that the game thinks it's full screen so the pointer is always slightly off on the vertical)

edit: nevermind, uncheck fullscreen mode. done
