As can be seen in the attached screenshot, hardware acceleration is greyed out, when I run LOL2.

I have also included the settings of the DOSBox and nGlide configurators.

Is there a way to run this game with an emulated 3dfx card, to get better graphics?

You may have figured this out already, however....

As per some of the other posts, to get a decent frame rate:
In the "Lands of Lore 2" folder
Run nglide_config.exe
Set Vertical Synchronization to off

edit the dosboxLOL2.conf file
Set cputype=auto

Edit the shortcut target in "Launch Lands Of Lore - Guardians of Destiny" (This will enable Glide Software Emulation)
From
"D:\GOG\Lands Of Lore 2\DOSBOX\dosbox.exe" -conf "..\dosboxLOL2.conf" -conf "..\dosboxLOL2_single.conf" -noconsole -c exit
To
"D:\GOG\Lands Of Lore 2\DOSBOX\dosbox.exe" -conf "..\dosboxLOL2.conf" -conf "..\dosboxLOL2_3dfx.conf" -noconsole -c exit

Start the game with "Launch Lands Of Lore - Guardians of Destiny"
Select "Options", then "Hardware Acceleration"
Now turn Acceleration on (Push right)

That should be it!
(As a side note it's well worth checking out the post on getting better midi music in lands of lore 2. https://www.gog.com/forum/lands_of_lore_series/how_to_get_better_midi_music_in_lands_of_lore_2)

Thanks! That works!

That also switched the game to fullscreen. Is it possible to play with hardware acceleration in a window?
This wouldn't post the first couple tries, so hopefully this isn't a triple post....

To get Windowed mode with glide likely depends on your machine, but this worked for me.

Download the newest nglide http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide
This version just added windowed mode.
I extracted the files through 7-zip into the Lands of Lore 2 directory, replacing the files as needed as opposed to using the installer

Try running Lands of Lore 2, if Alt-Enter switches to windowed mode you're good, otherwise you'll have to replace the dosbox version with another one (Like I had to)....

Find and download ykhwong dosbox svn build
Rename the DOSBOX folder in the Lands of Lore 2 directory to something like "DOSBOX_Original"
Install or extract the ykhwong dosbox svn build into Lands of Lore 2, in the DOSBOX folder (Rename to DOSBOX as necessary)
Extract the new nglide files into the new DOSBOX folder. Run Nglide_configurator.exe from DOSBOX folder. Change VSync and Screen Resolution as necessary.

Run Lands of Lore 2, hopefully it works!

If you need to return to the original Dosbox, in the Lands of Lore 2 folder rename DOSBOX to something like "DOSBOX_SVN" and rename "DOSBOX_Original" back to "DOSBOX"

Extras - Possible Performance Gains
edit the dosboxLOL2.conf file
Set cputype=pentium_mmx (Only Available with ykhwong dosbox svn build)
Set memsize=63 (Recommended by nglide)

If you cannot see in the Draracle's Museum, Run nglide_configurator.exe from DOSBOX folder and set gamma correction to 1.5 (Works better than in-game correction, but both can be played with). Then remember to light the torches with the spark spell (push 'n' to target)

Hello all, the real problem here is that this is still running on dosbox. There is no native directx support for this game with the gog version, or any other that I have found, I used to be able to make it work with dxgl,and an actual cd version of the game, but now with windows 10 not so much. The graphics from the windows 95 3dfx version are 100x better than the dos version. I know the game don't like multicore processors. I suppose my biggest issue is that when I'm buying a digital version of a game I bought 20yrs ago, that all of us should get the best possible experience from that game. Much like a couple others I have got, Tie Fighter 98 as an example! So I hope GOG can get things working like they should!!

Yes, the problem seems to be that the Win95 version features a 16-bit installer--bad choice on the part of the developer, Westwood--and so the installer won't run in Win10x64, or Win7x64 or Win8.1x64. Why they cannot replace the 16-bit installer for the game with a 32-bit installer beats me. I have the Win95 version, and while Win95 supported 16-bit and 32-bit applications and games, Windows x64 supports only 32-bit and 64-bit games and apps.
Could someone pleas share options.ini file with turn on 3Dfx acceleration? My 3Dfx is detected, but when i try to turn hardware acceleration Dosbox crash and settings not saved.

I interested in these lines:
[Acceleration]
Acceleration_VGA_Automap=No
Acceleration_VGA_Movies=No
Acceleration_Use4444=No
Acceleration_Filtering=On
Acceleration_Card=Primary
Acceleration_Toggle=Off

Update : Ok its simiple its only about last parameter.

The DirectX render actually runs at the wrong aspect ratio resulting in some minor glitches here and there plus letterboxing of gameplay (in addition to the pillarboxing you already get). It also has all sorts of other minor graphic artifacts.

Sure you get some things back for those drawbacks (higher framerate, widescreen gameplay), but I wouldn't be that certain of calling it the best possible experience.
Wait why didn't GOG just use the Windows version. I am running it right now (Windows 7 x64 Professional) and its better in a lot of ways?

Edit: Hurp durp I am a idiot the 3DFX was the same as the windows version.

The software renderers are identical.

For the hardware accelerated renderers, DOS 3DFX is better than Windows Direct3D.

"nglide_config.exe" doesn't change anything I turned off the 3DFX logo but it's still there. Any body know how to turn it off manually?
Has anyone managed to get this to work in 2023? The above mentioned methods don't seem to work anymore, so we need a new comprehensive guide.
The GOG release works by changing the shortcut to use the 3dfx.conf.
It looks bad, with visible lines between textures.

Updating to a later version of nGlide didn't help.

Edit:

I've since switched to the Windows version, which supports 3D.

Start with the GOG install
Find a copy of LOL95.EXE, MSS32.DLL and LOLSETUP.EXE
(They are in the "Lands of Lore 2 - PreInstalled Package" - Search in the Googles)
Copy/Move the contents of the DAT folder to the "Lands of Lore 2" folder
Start the game with "LOL95.EXE -CD"
