There is no way to adjust the game's image window so the game runs in stretched full screen mode only!

It runs fine for me. You might want to check the scaling option seting in your GPU control panel. Setting it to "keep aspect ratio" should help. If it should not help there are third party tools available that will force a specific resolution for every game. Here is the one I normally use.
