This has been a mystery for years for me. Does ANYONE else have the official Jagged Alliance 1 strategy guide? I have it in my hands right now and I enjoy it so much that I would love to purchase another "backup" of it. But even when I search the ISBN, it comes up with NOTHING on google. I can't even find a PICTURE of it anywhere, let alone any mention of it.

It has detailed maps of every single sector including all items, locked door strengths, and possible quest and dropped items. It even has awesome detail on every merc. Like their chances of readying a knife when attacked by a snake, gun unjamming %, chance to open crates, etc.

Lastly, at the end of the guide, there is a really fun "interview" with Lucas Santino which is really fun to read.

Has anyone else even heard of this before?

Hi,

I think the best course of action for you would be to digitise your copy. Personally, I'd put it through a high-resolution scanner and save the results to a PDF file. That's the best 'backup' I can think of.

Other than that, I'd be willing to buy a copy, too, either in book or digital form.
Like a standard flatbed scanner? That would be time consuming..... Do you have a suggestion of what type of scanner to use?

There are many options to go with this, many of which are senseless:

- purchase an expensive commercial book scanner (1000s of $)
- build an inexpensive do-it-yourself book scanner (100s of $ + lots of effort, knowledge, time and space)
- cut up the manual into sheets with a guillotine paper cutter and feed the sheets into a scanner with an automatic document feeder (a couple $1000 + you destroy your manual)
- put the manual through a high-resolution flatbed scanner (a couple $100 and some time)

There might be another option, considering where you are: see if there's a service in your area offering to convert books/magazines into digital media; that'd spare you the most hassle.
Thanks for the info!
I wanna read that. So badly.

It really is as awesome as it sounds. I'll see if I can take a picture of the cover and post it here.

Any chance you can scan the whole thing somehow?

Did you see the pictures I posted with the cover and stuff? Just curious. :)

As to your question, I don't see it happening anytime soon. It just takes so darn long with the technology available to me.

Hi Vorax,

I posted pics here http://www.gog.com/forum/jagged_alliance_series/the_mystery_ja1_strategy_guide_scanned_examples_inside
Good news, everyone, out of the blue last week I did an eBay search for Jagged Alliance, something I hadn't done since last December because Real Life™ got in the way, and right on the first page I fell on a second copy of the Jagged Alliance strategy guide. As soon I manage to acquire a second copy of the Jagged Alliance 2 strategy guide and a copy of the Deadly Games manual (that won't require me to pay for the box and everything else I don't need) I'm wrapping all this up and mailing it to GOG for them to do as they please.

Thanks!!
Just to keep you updated, I got all the necessary stuff right here on my desk, I've got my stamps and my package box and I'm GOG's reply regarding where to mail all this stuff.
