The strangest thing about this mess is that while JA2 itself doesn't work yet, JA2: Unfinished Business from GOG works fine on my MacBook Pro. They should work more or less the same even if UB is a standalone!
nothing on this? if it's truly the 'intel graphics' neither version should work... and there's no good answer on getting stracciatella to work with this port of JA2, let alone if that actually gets this version to work!

As noone else responds, I respond despite no really having a clue (no Mac system available). Do I understand your problem correct, is your problem that you don't have a "ja2.ini" at all or that it is existing but empty?

Do you tried to start the executable of the Stracciatella build (https://bitbucket.org/gennady/ja2-stracciatella/downloads) ? This should create folders and a "ja2.ini" (too?). And should fail initially, as you have to enter the path to the data folder from your gog install in the newly created ini. Then Stracciatella should work.

If your problem persists you can also ask for support by adding an issue on the stracciatella bugtracker (https://bitbucket.org/gennady/ja2-stracciatella/issues?status=new&status=open)

Aragornil: First of all I want to say how excited I was that one of my favorite games finally has a Mac port!

Now my problem: I downloaded and installed the game and launched it right away. I got a black screen, then a blue one, then black again, and then the application quit. I tried some tweaks with the screen option in the wrapper but nothing helped.
It's quite strange because Unfinished Business works just fine.

Oh, by the way, I use OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)
I just bought Jagged Alliance 2 in order to run it in my mac ... and i didn't notice the Intel Graphic Card thing !
I finally get it work using Wineskin.

0. Download windows version of Jagged Alliance 2

1. Go get Wineskin (http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php?page=Downloads)
2. Launch it
3. Add a new engine (i choose WS9Wine1.7.8)
4. Create a New Blank Wrapper (I name it JA2) - You do not need Mono .NET and Gecko package
5. Launch the wrapper (/Users/_username_/Applications/Wineskin)
6. Install Software -> Choose Setup Executable (the windows version of Jagged Alliance 2 Setup)

You are done !

PS : In Advanced you can change the engine, rebuild the wrapper, add flags to the exe, etc.

Here's what you need to paste into the .ini file for this to work:

#Tells ja2-stracciatella where the binary datafiles are located
data_dir = "/Applications/Jagged Alliance 2.app/Contents/Resources/drive_c/Program Files/GOG.com/Jagged Alliance 2"
here`s what worked on a macbook pro with osx 10.8.3:
-download mac version of game, mount+place in applications
-download stracciatella, extract+run(gives error)
-use command as mentioned on first page to display hidden files, one of them is ja2 in the user folder
-put command as posted by the user above me into the .ini file that is inside the hidden ja2 folder
-game runs by starting it via straciatella

so far so good, but it is displayed in a small window in the middle of the desktop; as i didn´t get to change the size of the window, maybe someone can explain it to me how to do that?

Stracciatella comes with a bunch of *.command files for OS X for automatically starting JA2 in several different languages. You can make a copy of one of those files (e.g. ja2-ENGLISH.command --> ja2-ENGLISH-FS.command) and edit the file with TextEdit:

"`dirname $0`/ja2" -resversion ENGLISH

to

"`dirname $0`/ja2" -resversion ENGLISH -fullscreen

Save the file and run ja2-ENGLISH-FS.command. You are now running the game in full screen.

I can't believe this worked, I'm not that tech savvy, but follow these steps and your playing one of the best games of all time!
Worked for me (OS X 10.10):

1. Go to /Applications
2. Jagged Alliance 2 -> Show package contents
3. Contents/Resources/game
4. Jagged Alliance 2 -> Show package contents
5. Open Wineskin
6. Set screen options
7. Set resolution 1024x768
8. Set "Use Mac Driver instead of X11".

Also I did (not sure it needed).

1. Go to Wineskin downloads page.
2. Download and install WS9Wine-1.7.29 engine.
3. In wineskin Advanced -> Tools -> Update wrapper
4. Choose "WS9Wine-1.7.29"
5. Click "Refresh wrapper"
YES! It works. Just update to the latest wineskin engine, update and refresh and your good to go! No need to change the resolution.
Works on my macbook pro with integrated intel graphics.

Hello all,

Glad to join the GOG community. Been trying all the manipulations suggested in this topic, but still JA 2 is not lauching!

For the mac version, the icon is boucing a few time, the game launches but no windows open, and it closes shortly after (approx 6 to 8 seconds)

I tried the PC version with Wine, but I get the "Oops! No new executables found! Maybe the installer failed...?" error message.

I think I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what! :D

Running OS X Mavericks 1.9.2 on a mid-2009 15" MBP
8 GO Intelcore2duo with a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 Mo

Big up to all people providing old games for our new systems ;)

Did you get the black screen followed by blue screen and then nothing?
