i just left master li and it started me on the quest. the goal listed for the quest is "Find Dawn Star" and the text underneath says master li thinks gao has taken dawn star to the marshes, "make your way to the town gate." but when i click on the town gate, it gives me the locked-door sound, and no cut scene starts or anything like that to further the quest. i don't know what to do or what i may have forgotten to do... the only other quest in my book is an Iron Palm quest just saying i found a new scroll. does anybody know what i might have to do so i can leave the school and continue the game?

How far in the game are you? If I recall correctly, there is a locked door sound, when you try to leave the school prematurely. But you say that Dawn Star was taken by bandits? This should mean that you have already been to the city and seen fx the beach.
Could you look around the area near the school gate for something to trigger the opening of the door. If you do not find anything, I suspect you have encountered a random bug and a reload might be your only option.

thanks lonal. i actually forgot i had made this thread, i did fix the problem though by loading a game i had saved just before master li's conversation, and this time the door was properly unlocked.

7 year late reply but I had this problem and tried to find a solution. I found out that if I interacted with a shrine it seemed to fix the bug and I could go through the door. Must be a trigger bug.
