Playing through this old gem again after many years. The missions can be a bit unforgiving, but ah, the memories. :)

I'm stuck on the mission "Crusade"... I have sent the megafreighter crashing into the COSA station, but after that, the station eventually launches an additional wing of ships. Unfortunately, it seems some of them collide with the station, sending it flying off at 1200m/s. This happens every time I try playing this mission without exception.

The problem is that after I've cleaned up all the COSA ships, the Commonwealth cruiser "Sword of Vengeance" is supposed to move in and engage the station... but by then the station will have drifted several hundred kilometers away, and the cruiser seems unable to find it, at which point the mission becomes stuck.

I can't remember having this problem when I played the game back in the day... does anyone have a solution for this? How did those of you who finished the game get past this mission?

I would enable cheats for that mission and use the 'skip' feature to force the mission to progress to the next section.

You can easily find the cheats by googling. I won't post them here in case you don't want to cheat.

I was forced to cheat my way past WEP Advanced II as I couldn't destroy the Indie carrier, but I was hoping to avoid doing the same here... especially since you can't just cheat your way forward by destroying the station, as this breaks the scripting. Oh well, I guess I have no choice but to skip this mission...

Thanks for the help and the quick answer. :)

You don't need to skip the entire mission. The SHIFT+S cheat key skips the next decision point in the mission, so should theoretically force the cruiser to destroy the station.

I think some of these issues are caused by the game running at far faster frame rates than when it was first produced. You'd be lucky to get 30fps max when running at 800x600 on a Voodoo2 card.

GOG at one time (probably still do) had access to a cpu display clock rate limiter - they use one with Red Baron called Setspeed.exe (though for that game, unlike IWar, they don't use a glide wrapper, you have to download one yourself if you want the good 3D graphics). It might be a good idea to ask them to provide one for this game, seems like it would solve a lot of problems.
