Kurek: I'm trying to get this working but it seems that iwar_start.exe doesn't read the command line arguments and if I try to run IWar.exe it just crashes after the intro movies.

Guess I'm stuck with 640x480.
I take it you've put the -b -16 command line arguments in a shortcut to iwar.exe?

Oh I'm an idiot. I had -b 16 instead of -b -16! Now it works fine.

Cheers.
Ok. I must be completely dense, as I have no idea where to put these settings. There's only one .ini file in the I-war folder that I can see, and pasting in the settings you listed doesn't seen to do anything. I've looked everythere for another .ini file to do this, and the exe file doesn't have enough space. that I can see. Anyone want to explain in terms a 2 year old can understand?

mhe: ...I found out GoG actually uses the so-called Zeckensack Glide wrapper....

To get to this config file, I installed his full wrapper package, which comes with a configurator frontend and I started tweaking...

The full documentation of every parameter (for the configurator)supported in the ini-file can be found here.
Had trouble locating this too, had to take a very careful look at the thread.

Instead of installing the wrapper, you could just open it with a file archiver such as 7zip, and just extract the config file. (Winzip essenially does the same thing as 7zip, but apparently can't do the above)
Okay, I had everything working in the past, then I switched machines and can't remember how I got it working last time.

Just to clarify, do you place the glide_wrapper.zbag.ini file in the I-War Deluxe folder? In the .ini file, do you reference iwar.exe or iwar_start.exe? For the shortcut, do you leave iwar_start.exe or change it to iwar.exe before adding the -b -16 settings?

No, you edit the glide_wrapper.zbag.ini found in your profile directory:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data
Vista/7: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming (somebody confirm this please, I don't actually have a Vista/7 machine available right now)

You reference iwar.exe, not iwar_start.exe.

If you are not going to create a new shortcut, then you need to change iwar_start.exe to just iwar.exe
Okay, thanks for that!. I'm still figuring out where everything get's moved in Windows 7, so I'll check that out. For kicks, I installed the wrapper from the main site which places the glide2/3 files in C:\Windows and the rest in a directory of your choosing with the INI file.

I think by installing the full Zecken<mumble> wrapper, I was able to modify the settings in the specified directory, but it sounded like it was located somewhere else in the original post. I'd rather keep it "vanilla" as close to possible using the DLLs in the I-War directory instead of installing the full Z wrapper.

Additionally, for those inclined to try nGlide .95 (new), you will need to delete/move the glide .DLLs from your I-War directory as it seems to make their DLL(s) "global".

So far, I've seen no difference between the Z and nGlide graphics (if I'm doing it right). You still get some muddy cut-scenes in all of them. The main benefit of dgVoodoo is getting 1920x1080.

I can get 1920x1080 going, but I usually get a crash in a mission here and there, however after tweaking some of the settings, I can get rid of the weird flashing portions of the window and missing vector graphics/screens in the Weapons/Engineering screens. I'm hoping to get a stable setup and post it if I don't get any crashes. I think it seemed to always happen in NAV Advanced, so I don't have far to go!

Damn it! I just can't find a stable configuration with dgVoodoo. Is it so wrong to want 1080P I-War?

It kills me that everything will work until an in-game dock. So far, it's totally reproducible at the first dock with the Instructor or the last dock with Saltlake in NAV Advanced. Other than that, it all works perfectly.
Okay, I have now made it past the issue where the docking process was causing the crashes. I will continue testing (if anyone cares) and confirm my settings for Windows 7 x64.
Sorry for being away so long, had stuff to do like exams. You said you've overcome the issue where docking makes the game crash to desktop with dgVoodoo?

I'm very interested in hearing about it - it was the issue that made me come up with pimping the Zeckensack wrapper in the first place!

I run Win7 64 and a Radeon 6970. If this will work, perhaps one can dream and even try to enjoy I-War in Eyefinity? :D
Well, I thought I had it figured it out, but it crashed later in NAV Advanced:

1) Initial dock with Flight Instructor
2) Docking at end of the mission

It's so frustrating since it looks totally fantastic AND it will scale the video resolution. I'm so pissed I resurrected my old Win98/Monster 2 3D machine to try out some oldies (which is sort of against the point of GoG :p).

The weird part was that it sometimes works past these parts of the game, so I guess there is some "random" value that can get out of whack. However, I've tried damn near every setting in dgVoodoo and I just can't find the right mix.
I've even switched my graphics card (moved from 5870 to 6970 due to Eyefinity), but I haven't been able to get I-war running on dgVoodoo without that showstoppers you described. Perhaps this will only work on nVidia hardware properly?

It would be very interesting to get some debugging going, at least then we'd know in which direction to look further. At the moment it could be anything, starting at I-war itself down to all the layers like dgVoodoo, the graphics driver, some weirdness in the OS or even some glitches in hardware.
I couldn't tell if it was working. Then I figured out it was. Post editied to say this now.

Also, I guess, these pretzel sticks are a poor substitute for some steak filets, but I suppose I ought to be thankful for food at all.

Some people don't have pretzels.
