The Steam version of this game was discovered to contain the Red Shell analytics software. I am not certain of the status of the GOG version.

EDIT: The current version of the game on GOG is 1.1.0 and therefore probably DOES contain the spyware. Wait until the game has been patched to install.

This software is according to the developer supposed to be used to tell developers when a clicked link on an advertisement for the game leads to a sale. They can view stats such as % sales from a particular link, etc. Unfortunately, the software has the potential to collect personally-identifiable information and much more sensitive information from your computer, and the only protection the user has from this is a promise from the dev. So, it is spyware. Since the analytics software is not opt-in, it is also currently illegal in most of Europe.

The dev for Holy Potatoes has announced their intention to remove redshell and include opt-in analytics instead:

Version is 1.1.4.2, so the spyware should be removed, but I don't know how to verify.

Sounds abought right for a hive of SJW develpopers that no longer even touch their forums, despite the fact the GOG versioh is woefully out of date behind Steam, no manual, etc. I wouldn't care except it's a great gamel, dammit@

Another game where updates are available but not for gog customers :-(?

gog.com should introduce a policy that games are considered to be abandoned by the developer/publishing company (i. e. do not receive updates or patches here for more than 6 months) if the company is still existing and publishing updates/patches on other platforms or websites/stores. Customers should be entitled to request a full refund for abandoned titles and gog.com should deduct the refund from any future sales revenue of the comapany/publisher of this game.

Regarding spyware: I don't care about any analytics or similar functions in games because all my games are blocked by my (third party, non-microsoft) firewall. I simply block the game executable(s) whenever I start the game for the first time so the game can collect as much data as it wants - it will never get an opportunity to send them anywhere :-)...
What do you say? It's up to date with Steam. What is the version number of Steam game?
