Its been years since I've played my retail cd version of this (install disc got broke/cracks long ago) so I got the GOG version the other day. So i was setting up a LAN game for my kids, and they all wanted to be on the same team vs computer opponents, playing on a random map. I couldn't figure out how to do it. Or couldn't remember how. Or even remember if it can be done? Anyone know how to do this or if it can be done?

Sure I can help you out. Will make the following example as if you have 2 kids wanting to play vs 2 computers.

On the Random Map settings after both players have joined the game, you would want to set the following settings.

HUMAN OR COMPUTER PLAYERS Set this to 2 (or however many humans you want playing)
HUMAN OR COMPUTER TEAMS set to 1
COMPUTER ONLY PLAYERS set to 2 (or however many enemies they want from 1- 6)
COMPUTER ONLY TEAMS set to 1 (if you set the comp players to say 6 and wanted 3 teams of 2 then you would set this to 3. Or if you wanted say 2 teams of 3 each you would set it to 2. However be aware that the computer will randomly choose it's own teams from among the Computer ONLY players.).

These are the 4 numbers that are important for setting up the game for a 2v2 with humans v comp. You would choose the other options like map size, water, guards and difficulty as normal

*BE AWARE that the 2 players above will have to be Red and Blue, they can choose which is which but must use those 2 colors in above example. Otherwise you cannot guarantee that humans will be together. This really shouldn't matter that much though.

ALSO you will not see the teams until the game starts so don't worry that it does not show the allies near the bottom right on the setup.

Any other questions I would be happy to answer.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess what was throwing me was that the little "allies" and "enemies" flags weren't responding accordingly to what I was wanting (and selecting). Thanks. Problem solved!

I know this is a dead topic, but since my question is very related and you might have the answer I thought it would be better to post here than in a separated topic (for the people who may visit it in the future with my question).

For what I have read in your post, I think I know the answer, but I'm not sure. Do you know if there is a way to choose allies when you are playing with no computer players? For example 8/4 (8 players, 4 teams).

If this isn't posible with the random map generator, are there maps that allow it? (Either in the original game or created)

Thanks in advance.

Yeah it is best to keep these kind of things to one thread when possible and I am glad to help.

Now when only people are playing you sadly canNOT choose which teams you will be on when playing RANDOM MAPS.

There ARE certain premade maps that you can certainly play where the colors are already teamed up, such maps usually have the word (ALLIES) tacked on to them for example Crimson & Clover, Battle of the Sexes and Barbarian Breakout are all maps that have an allied version as well. You would just have to check in the advanced options down near the bottom right of the screen the colors of the flags (right click on it to see all the teams), then just assign players to the colors.

You can download other maps if you want from Celestial Heavens dot com. http://www.celestialheavens.com/search2.php
Thank you for the information.

I'm new to the game and want to try and play completely alone, with no computer teams and no human teaams but nu matter how I select in the random map options I can't seem to get it right. There always shows up a blue team after two weeks or so. Is it even possible?

No it is not possible to start a game that only has 1 player using the normal random map gen. This is because the only win condition it uses is "Defeat all Enemies" so it needs at least that 1 other otherwise game over right at start.

You can however use the map editor to create or modify a map and make it so the win condition is something different. This is not really a good thing todo if your just getting started though.
Greetings everyone as this is my first post on this forum :)

I have a problem/question partially associated with previous question.

I've started humans vs AI "hot seat" game and during the game one of the human players would like to abandon the game. Is there a possibility to change his faction to controlled by AI from the point he has left the game?

I guess there is something to be done during entering human names when choosing LOAD-MULTIPLAYER option from menu when loading saved game (in fact he was first on the list- the red one in the game). Should we enter his name normally and change later his flag to comupter before load? Or leave first position blank, or enter only remaining human's names? But what with colors and factions later- I'm worried about potential mess it could produce.

I will be very grateful for your answer. I show this fantastic game to my children after near 20 years I've played it and in the middle of the game it appeared that one of them is still to young to play it properly...

You can try mucking about with names in various slots, but I'm not sure you can get the first player slot to be computer controlled while everyone else isn't. Might have been able to get the last slot CPU controlled; I don't quite remember. I do remember getting a human slot to be CPU controlled, but that was years ago and I don't remember the details.

As long as you don't save over the current save game (use a different slot during testing), you don't risk losing the current game state.
