Apparently Game Farm bought back the rights to Shadow and are on track to finally release Book 2:

http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/116061-shadows-heretic-kingdoms-to-return-with-book-2.html

Also, the std. edition will be upgraded to deluxe.

Good news indeed!
Also it looks like it may be in the weekend sale this week as this is an interesting quote taken from the Gamebanshee site...

"And for those who haven’t experienced soul possession and switching between a mortal world and Shadow Realm seamlessly, we offer Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms with a 50% discount - for €9.99 eur / $9.99 on Steam and GOG"

at the moment the game is priced at £22.99 ($35.59) for me so I'm hoping that this will be the case :)

Any more word on this? Is book 2 actualy comming? It's been quite a while since I've heard anything on it's staus.
Games Farm is redeveloping Shadows with a new game engine due to the number of issues with the old one, coupled with the downtime leaving it (even more) out of date.

The current plan, AFAIK, is to re-release book 1 under the new engine in Q2 or Q3 this year, with Book 2 coming some time afterward. From the dev posts on the Steam forums, chapter 1 is pretty much complete but chapter 2 and 3 need a bit more work. In addition to the technical changes they're adding some more features and possibly some more content as well.

Any update on the revamped Book 1? I want to play through this, but I'm holding off for the revamp.

Leading on from this is there any news regarding Book 2 which was supposed to be coming "soon" almost a year ago? It seems that there have been no new updates on the development progress log since December 2015 :(

I have a feeling that we'll actually see neither although I do hope I'm wrong...

Agreed. I guess I might as well play through Shadows.

I would, even as it stands it's a pretty good game :)
Going by what one of the devs has said in the Steam forums...

Book 1 is still in redevelopment. Chapter 1 is pretty much finished, Chapter 2 and 3 still need some work.

There should be an announcement of some sort in the next couple of weeks, though it's not clear whether it will be about Shadows or another project - the developers have done contract work alongside the book 1 redevelopment to keep the bills paid.

Thanks for the info - lets hope the announcement is about Shadows :)
Shadows will be published by Kalypso Media Digital like their upcoming game Vikings - Wolves of Midgard. There will be official announcement concerning it sometimes next year.

Hey everybody,

first of all, thanks for your patience and sorry for delayed response - we are quite swamped with finalizing Vikings: Wolves of Midgard...
I have some good news. It turns out that we finally made a deal with partner for Shadows :). I cannot disclose more information until it is officially announced (which may take a while and I don't expect any announcements this year).
What it mean for the game? With the support of our partner we will be able to make the game even better that I hoped for... And you have additional guarantee that the game will be completed :)
I would tell you more if I could; but in the moment I cannot say anything more... Anyway, thanks to you all for your support so far :) and enjoy the weekend!

Vikings will be the first one available - cashflow is simply merciless :(

That's correct notice about the publisher, thanks amud... No Ubi, no EA, no US publisher after all - I hope it ceases your mind :). Game will be published by Kalypso Media. They are releasing also our game Vikings and we are happy with the cooperation so far (seems like so are they:))... Hopefully it will stay this way :)

@Emrys - Regarding timing - there is preliminary schedule in place already. It should give us enough time to complete Shadows in good quality... But I cannot tell the details before the official announcements though and I have no idea when this will happen - certainly not this year...

Great news, thanks for passing this info on, I had begun to think that it had been quietly forgotten.

Precisely my way of thinking! :)

Thank you for letting us know, I was just about to post here a question titled: "Will this game ever be finished?"

I am glad authors would like to finish it. Hope it won´t take too long, I am slighty worried about the "With the support of our partner we will be able to make the game even better that I hoped for" - suggests they might update the engine/whatever - these things tends to be tricky, and it all might end up longer than they anticipated AND money might run out again.

But I hope it won´t happen and the game will be completed just as developers have intended.
