The screen fades to black every time I die and stays that way. I actually have to force quit the game every time on account of this. Here are my specs:

Windows 10 x64
AMD FX 8350 8 Cores 4.0 GHZ
GeForce GTX 970 4 GB VRAM
16 GB RAM

And I have the game installed on a standard 7.2K RPM Hard Disk if that helps identify the issue. Also the settings are maxed at Very High and it runs beautifully otherwise.

What is the version number of your Nvidia drivers? Version 384.94 are the latest ones and the changelog mentions Hellblade specifically.
So um... Are you guys just being impatient? I have an FX 8320 with a GTX 1060 6gb, and it takes me 2-3 minutes AT LEAST when I die just to get the spinny circle.

That's odd. I only have a GTX 970, I've maxed out all the settings and am playing at 3840x2160 and I only have to wait a few seconds for the game to automatically reload when I die.

Yeah when I first died I freaked out thinking the game hard locked my system, but I've learned to wait at least a few minutes when I think nothing's happening. Plus I can hear the hard drive spinning when I die, so... Yeah. Best I can think of is it might have something to do with Win 10? Not sure. It takes a >very< long time for me, though.

I'm not sure what's causing it. The only kinda buggy thing I've run into so far is foliage and such around me popping up when I first load my savegame. There have been one or two other graphical glitches, but only when I was tinkering around with the Unreal 4 video commands in Engine.ini. Not since I sorted out what commands to use, though. Here are my specs. I'm using the latest beta driver for my GPU.

Intel i5-4690 @ 3.50GHz
Kingston HyperX FURY 32 GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Windows 10 Home x64

I am running the latest 384.94 driver. Sorry for the delayed reply BTW, I kind of lost track of this forum thread. Another thing I forgot to mention is that my hard disk that I have installed Hellblade on is a terabyte 7.2k RPM, but it is currently very full. About 170 GB free.
Nvidia just released updates drivers yesterday with fixes for Hellblade. It's worth installing them to see if it fixes your issue :)

Just FYI: The new 385.xx nvidia drivers do not fix this bug (I tried all from 378.92 to 385.28). Steam users are also getting the same problem. AMD and Intel users as well. In my case the entire PC freezes at the black screen and it takes at least 3-6 minutes just to be able to get to task manager and kill the Hellblade task.

Honestly, until the game is patched, I don't think you're going to see a resolution to your issue. I wasn't trying to be funny earlier in the thread, but was curious because it does seem like when I had the game installed it took about 5 minutes to get from the black screen to the circle spinning.
Guys, the new patch just came out, seems like its not at gog yet but they already added a changelog so it must be coming.

...and the patch DOES NOT fix this black screen freeze problem. /face-palm
