- The only viable resolution to play at is the lowest one (800x600)
- 800x600 is not even displayed in the correct aspect ratio. It goes into some weird 16x10'ish mode where everything is streched.
.. on top of that we still have to use a 3rd party patch to avoid game crashes (sound error) all the time or completely turn off sound.

I don't see how this is "solved" by playing on 800x600, turning off sound and living with some semi-streched screen.
Please give us a fix here GOG.

Resolution choices via the options menu are limited, but it is possible to set any resolution you want (I run at 2048x1536 myself) by editing the following Registry keys:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Digital Reality\Haegemonia
ResolutionX
ResolutionY
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Digital Reality\TheSolonHeritage
ResolutionX
ResolutionY

The downside of doing this is that re-entering the Options menu will reset the resolution to 800x600 (whether you make any change or not) but you could try preventing this by changing Write permissions to Deny on those keys, or using security software that monitors Registry settings to "protect" those keys also.

Sounds like a scaling problem on your system - what is your monitor resolution and what graphics card are you using? Check that your graphics card drivers are configured to scale while maintaining aspect ratio.

Never encountered this myself - if your sound card drivers are up to date, try disabling (or reducing) sound acceleration settings.

This reply is probably way too late to help you, but since I just installed the game a few days ago. This may help others in the same situation. The solution itself was presented in another thread, so I can't really take credit for it.

It appears the registry location is different depending on the OS being WIN 7 or WIN 10.

The above post is probably true if WIN 10, but for WIN 7 you will have to look in:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432\Digital Reality\Haegemonia

[Note: I'm not 100% I spelled the WOW folder name right, but it should be close enough to help find the game folder]

I too am facing the sound problem, but some have posted a few solutions that I will try out.

This is due to you using a 64-bit version of Windows which "virtualises" registry settings in the same way that it redirects file access to %windir% (this is usually C:\Windows\System32\ on 32-bit systems but on 64-bit Windows you have 2 folders - C:\Windows\System32\ for 64-bit code and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ for 32-bit code).

The registry keys I give above apply to all 32-bit versions of Windows (I'm running WinXP) and yours will apply to all 64-bit versions (including XP64 for anyone out there running it). Hope that clarifies matters.

Good to know, thanks for the additional clarification.

The big things I've noticed are:

- The sound system bug is still there, even despite a (admitedly 3rd party) fix being available.
The fixed exes from mod-db appear to work okay.

- Many story characters have blank names, which makes figuring out who's who for assignments annoying.
There is a 'fix' for this in the forum, but I've not been able to get/extract it.

By far the most irrtating though...

- Enemy units have blank I.D. tooltips/names, so they are literally impossible to select or target while in a group.
This makes general gameplay such a huge chore, as playing from the map is no longer possible most of the time.

[edit]
This has turned out to be weird.
Enemy units built normally within the mission are fine and get tagged as expected.
But scripted units, are a coin toss. The towing ship in the last earth/mars mission got tagged properly. But Nilea's ambush squad were all blank with no names and no tags.
Same with the pirates later. The units they start with are blanks, but any of the infinte stream they send at your are named and tagged properly.
There's also a pirate ambush with half it's units named, and half blank.
Possibly something missing in the level data?

Another mild irritation is hgm.exe and hgma.exe both default to run in admin mode, and it cannot be disabled (option is checked AND greyed out) which to me is sketchy as hell.
Wierdly, both lose this oddball property if renamed to literally anything else. So renamed they shall remain.
Admin rights are emphatically NOT required to run this game.

I do have a disc for Heag, but I can't just pull stuff off it as it's all packed up in some wierdo zip/exe that has no internal structure at all, so it's impossible to see where anything belongs.
I wonder if I have it installed on any of my old boxes....

Thanks for the heads up, I can't stand this.
I don't know how people can be bothered to deal with a mouse that moves twice as fast because of this forced resolution stretching that happens with these old games that aren't patched/modernized.
-The research tree does not show all research items if resolution is set to anything higher than 800x600.
-German language is missing in Legions of Iron
-German language mod pack has issues with ÜÄÖ not displaying correctly, but at least its playable in german then

Luckily i dont have that sound system error everyone is talking about. But sometimes sounds are not playing at all, it looks like the fading distance of gun sounds it too short so i cant hear them firing when zoomed out.
