So apparently a modder in the Vector Prime mod community has discovered a solution to two of the largest bugs in Solon Heritage. Something to do with the CD key in multiplayer (which I've never had) and the bane of vista/7 users, the sound system error.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/haegemonia-vector-prime/downloads/tsh-sound-system-and-multiplayer-fix

EDIT: Well apparently since it's a new EXE file it causes the GOG version of the game to ask for a CD key at startup, which of course the GOG version doesn't have.

Please note that you should still launch through the default GOG shortcut, which uses the wrapper. The wrapper handles the serial and stuff like that!
well the patch doesnt work for me if I click ont the shortcut I still get the cd key issue
We're going to look into it.

And indeed, confirmed by several people that the GOG version is not compatible with this fix.

I'll forward it to BBalazs, who is the main dev for this fix :)
Hey there..

Is there any solution until now?
Already requested a normal cd key from gog.. but just to make sure.

Same problem here.. if you launch the game with the sound system fix, it wants a cd key :/
Thats really NOT funny, cause i owned the game in real, but cant find my keys -.-

now i bought it here and cant use the fix - no cd key :(

But i guess gog will help here.. one way or another.
I might be going to forward the way we fixed it towards GOG, so they can fix it in their exe too.

I also happen to have made a 64 bits version of the haeg exe. Of course, this was just by editing the file headers.

I'll ask BBalazs to send me the info on this fix, and tell GOG.com about it.

So any news yet on gog fixing this issue? Im itching to purchase and play this game again but this sound error is preventing me from doing just that.
Any word if this works with the original? Because I'd love to be able to play original Haegemonia without that sound issue.

No news from GOG so far. I might try different ways of contacting them :)

/edit:
FYI, the fix used:
I could... But this is a careful thing. Back in the day I have been provided multiple ways to fix the executable. Some are more stable; others are not. I will give you the ones that I used in the currently available file. Note that if the offsets have been changed in the GOG version (that is data has been moved) they will have to look for the proper location. This is done by searching for LARGE chunks of data from the original file, because there are many locations in the executable that have extremely similar-looking code, and it could be tedious to find the right location. Handle with care.

Locations are for v2.1
Ignore sound system error:
Location 17DD57 value 55 change to C3
Multiplayer false invalid CD key error:
Location 64AEE0 value 83 change to C3

Hello everyone. I found a solution that works perfectly for me. Not a single crash for the last 6h of playing!
1.Right click on Hgm.exe, properties
2. set compatibility with XP SP2
3.Run as an Administrator
4. Most important ALWAYS switch the map OF by double-clicking on something Never with SPACE BAR!
5.Enjoy

OS W7 64bit SP1, IC I5 2.3Ghz, 6Gb RAM, Radeon HD 6490M, Int. soundcard
Any updates?

Promo is ending in 10 hours. ;-)
kinda sucks i'd really like to play that mod since there aren't many left for haegemonia but without cd key on the expansion i guess it's a no go :(
Greetings!
Maybe I am digging up the dead, but that's what gog is all about ;)
I got my version of Haegemonia from the recent summer sale and found a working CD-Key in the registry.
Open the registry editor (regedit) and go to: HKEY_LOKAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> WOW6432Node -> Digital Reality -> TheSolonHeritage
At the same direction you can select a custom resolution for widescreen, but that will sadly only be stretched.
It worked in my case together with the patch that should fix the (previously experienced) sound system error... hopefully.

Good Luck!

There are two other alternatives not yet mentioned:

1. Disable visual themes - Right click on your Haegemonia shortcut > properties > compatibility > Disable visual themes
2. Turn of all game sound - Set all game sliders to zero and restart the game. While less that ideal, this does fix the crashes for some people.
Has this been fixed? Got the game few days ago, want to play it with sound.
