I have a bad PC. Like, a really bad PC. Will I be able to play this with dated graphics and be able to run it, or do I have to go on Amazon for a $30 vintage copy and deal with the compatibility fallout myself?

The original won't be available upon release of this "Remastered" version, maybe in the future as a bonus. But yes, you'll be able to switch between the original and new graphics. As for whether you will be able to play it or not, it depends on you machine. Can you post HW specs?

The Remastered version has the ability to switch to the original version whenever you want. If you're looking for a standalone version of the original, then no, that won't be available.
You won't be able to play the classic mode on a machine that doesn't meet the system requirements, but I'd hold off on searching down an expensive version of the original CD if all you want is the game and don't care for something physical to hold in your hands.

It's unknown yet how the original data is going to be stored with the remastered release, but if it's anything like the Monkey Island special editions you might be able to extract the original game's data and play it with ResidualVM (which, while it most likely has higher system requirements than the original 1998 executable, should be able to be played on most older systems).

It's just been confirmed in the Double Fine forums that running the classic mode will be less hardware intensive, so you might be able to run it in classic mode through the remastered executable with your older hardware after all.

You will not be able to run the game if you dont have a card that supports open gl 3.3

If you cant even boot into the game forget about switching to the classic mode. This just like doom 3 bfg edition Yes it has the older doom games packed into it but you cant open the game if you dont meet the minimum requirements

Looks like people who ignored the opengl 3.3 warning are paying the price for it

I just like to confirm this. The new lighting and renderer makes the game run like ass on my old PC with integrated graphics but choosing the original renderer and disabling the lighting makes it run smooth as butter, it looks and plays exactly like the 98 original. As long as your PC meets the minimum requirements it should be fine.

This is true.

However, and this at the moment is pure speculation and nothing more, residualVM *could* potentially support running this version of Grim Fandango (minus the remastered additions), because the files in the main folder seem to have been kept from the original engine (the remastered edition is built on top or around that). Maybe it will eventually be possible to run the classic game with residualVM sort of like you can run the classic game with scummVM for the steam versions of the LucasArts games (including the monkey island special editions - were some extra work is needed from the user).

OpenGL 3.3 shouldn't be a problem to anyone, unless your GPU is really ancient.

In any case I would recommend that the OP should check if his computer meets the system requirements. If not, then it's probably best to get the original version (which really doesn't work that well with modern hardware and operating systems) or wait till he gets a new computer, which can run the remastered version.
Yes, my GPU is a steaming pile of horse poop. Welp, guess it was time I got that AMD A8 and Radeon 7950 anyway.
