I bought this game mainly as a show of loyalty to GOG, and it seems I'm just not much of a point and click fan. I'm already at rage-quit level, and I am not enjoying it.

I have no idea what to do or where to go, and nothing i've tried seems to work. I'm stuck after climbing the ties. Okay, now what?

Pretty ridiculous to not have anything hinting to what to do.
Are you asking us for hints or places where you can get hints?

To me, the best source for hints is UHS. It's structured differently from a normal walkthrough in that it only provides specific answers to your questions to spoil as little of the game as possible.

You can control the game completely by using the keyboard - rooms and menu alike - so there is no need to use the mouse for anything (if I am being too literal here, sorry, I might have misinterpreted your remark); just walk through the rooms to stuff that looks interesting and Manny will incline his head to indicate there is something you can now examine or use/pick up, which you should probably always try in that order.

Generally, just because you are able to visit a room at a time does not mean you have to. Grim Fandango is actually a pretty straightforward game; try to keep in mind what you want to do now and if you haven't yet visited a place that enables you to do that, then explore. In the beginning, you have to get to that poisoning - the secretary and Manny keep telling you - so try to organize a vehicle and go from there.

Eurogamer have a guide :

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-01-27-grim-fandango-remastered-walkthrough-3685

There is a bit missing though from Year 2 on how to actually get the VIP Card, you have to talk to the Bees at the dock to get the extra bit of conversation.

There are also loads of guides over on GameFAQ's :

Thanks, everyone. I received much more help than I deserved. I'm afraid my depression causes me to go into crybaby-mode when I get frustrated, which is why I usually avoid games I can't cheat on. heh.

Don't worry! You will soon develop what I call 'Schafer Logic' to help get through most LucasArts adventure games ;)

For me the games are more about the story than the puzzles, but it is quite satisfying figuring some of them out yourself.

Others just leave you equally bewildered even once you've read the solution XD
