Windows 8.1 - game installed and crashes as soon as I start it. I notice that DF is posting on Steam and adding features to get crash reports, but what are they doing for GOG Customers?

This game seemed to have very little quality control/testing prior to be released.

If you've got an NVIDIA graphics card I've got a fix for you.

Go into your NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings and under global settings change your "preferred graphics processor" to your NVIDIA card.

Seems to have worked for most people so it should for you too. Unless you're using AMD but I'm sure there's a similar approach.

Anyway, Fingers Crossed.

PS: Might have to update your Driver first.

I'm guessing you're on a notebook with Nvidia Optimus? This tip probably isn't applicable to someone on a desktop, but is pretty essential for anyone with Nvidia Optimus because otherwise you'll spend most of your time playing games on the integrated Intel 'GPU' and basically not be making use of your laptop's capabilities.

OP: If you're on a laptop with an Nvidia card then this is useful. Probably won't mean anything if you're on a desktop though.
Hi,

Found on the Steam forums a post that the game doesn't start in QHD or UHD native resolutions. I was able to fix the problem by setting the game to start in 640 x 480 resolution and then setting the game to windowed mode in in game resolution settings.

Removed the 640x480 resolution in the short cut again and now the game works also in very high resolutions (just windowed).

Hope it helps.

how do you set the game to start in 640x480? I believe the problem I have is the game is trying to go to my monitor's resolution which is 4k and I can't find any option to force the resolution to a lower setting. I have a AMD 290.

Set your display resolution to 1920x1080. Start GF Remastered, enable windowed mode, apply changes, quit game, set windows display resolution back to QHD or UHD. Start game again (if you switch to fullscreen mode in game it will crash again...).

thanks I will try that out. Still poor showing again on DF's behalf on the quality of their game release.
