Hi,

I'm trying to enable the EAX like effects in Giants Citizen Kabuto.

I'm running windows 7 x64 with a Creative Labs SoundBlaster Z. I've tried using Alchemy to map any directsound 3d calls to OpenAL, and I've also tried to add -snd3d to the shortcut, but both haven't let me turn on the additional sound effects.

Any ideas?

I use this wrapper to play some old games. Never tested with Giants but could deserve a test.

Sadly didn't work. I'm wondering whether Giants interacts with Direct Sound in a way not considered by Indirectsound or Alchemy. Either that or the EAX has been nerfed in GoG's version.

I might ask support.
Hi a little bit late, but i found a solution,

1. Save "Giants.exe" from GOG-Version (optional the "Bin" folder to - see below why)
2. Look for the offical "1.4 w/ EAX" Patch in the internet
3. Place the exe file of the Patch into the root folder of the Game (Default: "C:\GOG Games\Giants - Citizen Kabuto")
4. execute the Patch
5. Place the saved "Giants.exe" of the GOG Version back into the root folder (optional the "Bin" folder to)
6. Edit the desktop shortcut the field target from "C:\GOG Games\Giants - Citizen Kabuto\Giants.exe" to "C:\GOG Games\Giants - Citizen Kabuto\Giants.exe" -snd3d
7. Look into your ingame soundoptions if reverb and occulision works (if not be sure you installed a DS3D Wrapper like Indirectsound or Alchemy)

Note: The "Bin" folder contains updated textures in my opinion, the only files you need from the patch are "EAL" folder, old "gs_ds.dll" and old "gg_dx7r.dll". Haven't tested if grapic problems occur if you use the newer textures! Hopefully someone else can test it!

Thanks!

I had to do something slightly different. I downloaded the patch, applied the patch, took the EAL folder and the gs_ds.dll, copied them out and uninstalled.

Reinstalled, copied in the folder and the files and it seems to work. I couldn't keep the gg_dx7r.dll from the patch as this caused a crash on launch of the game.
I'm having no luck with this. I seem to remember having it working 2 years ago or so on my Windows 7 x64 bit machine with a Audigy2 ZS . Now I'm on Windows 10 with a X-Fi titanium.

Using Alchemy of course to place the dsound files in the game root. I've tried all the methods I could find with a Google search. At best the EAX logo shows up on the splash title screen. But the options remain greyed out with all solutions.
Hello, I have the same problem with this great game, just bought a Logitech Z506 5.1 kit for my computer running on seven x64 and tried every solution with no luck.

One issue I have when I read your posts is about this "EAX folder" : no matter when I install GOG version or 1.4 patch after that, I never found it...

Can you tell me what is inside this folder ?

Thx
