dacar92: So, I installed the old version in D rather than C but none of the items noted below appear in any of my folders on D.

Inside of C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy ...
- ... \autoupdate
- ... \autoupdate-verified
- ... \temp\desktop-galaxy-updater
- ... \selfupdate.json

In my C drive there is a Gog folder but none of these items appear in there either. I don't even have a programData folder in C. When I search on redist it appears as _redist, _redist appears in Dependencies and dependicies-temp but there is no Galaxyupdater.exe in either of them. There is not a selfupdates.json either.

I have made the shortcut with the amended target. So let's see what happens. Just strange I have none of those files.
Assuming "C" is the drive Windows is installed on, "ProgramData" is a hidden folder and may not be visible unless you set viewing permissions to show hidden and system files. You can also enter the address "C:\ProgramData\" into a system search or file explorer and get there directly without needing to unhide it.

Also some of the files listed will only have appeared if you had already launched Galaxy prior to checking the location, if they're absent, obviously there's no need to delete them - their presence merely indicates that some or all of the files required for the update had been downloded.

Phoenix-co: autostart for gog galaxy is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current\Run\ under "launchOnStartup (data value being the location of GalaxyClient.exe followed by /launchViaAutoStart
So I suppose if I were to add /runWithoutUpdating I should be able to re-enable Galaxy's autostart without the risk of it being win10updated ?
Check with Sysinternal's "Autoruns" tool, maybe you missed one?

Phoenix-co: I'll just do what I did with skype's updates: new text file, rename the .txt into GalaxyUpdater.exe, paste it in redists, set as readonly so that it can't be replaced easily by another program, and good luck updating anything with that
As others have already stated, deleting the updater is enough. It won't be repaired / redownloaded automatically, and when it's missing, Galaxy won't even throw an error.

williamjcm: I think someone should make a mirror in case it ends up being actually taken down.
Oh, if that happens, you will be able to find the setup linked everywhere, believe me. At least as long as v2.0 is still just a BETA and v1.2 still shows your installed games.

can we request a sticky for this post. since people keep asking about how to revert?

HAH! Oh, the irony. Of GoG staff making this post sticky.
Well, if they were to do it.

I don't think they can / would want (their staff) to do that. It's about saving face. Making this topic sticky would pretty much undermine what they're trying to do, currently.

Over here in germany we have a saying, which applies to this situation.
"Konsequenz heißt, auch einen Holzweg zu Ende zu gehen". Which roughly translates to,
"Consequence means to keep walking, even the forest path (wrong track), to it's very end".

But yes. This topic would probably help a lot of people and reduce chaos in the forums, if it were sticky.

Showing installed games won't be an issue, I think. It's downloading/updating them that might break.

I think there's a latin saying that would fit better: "Errare humanum est, perseverare diabolicum." ("To err is human, to persist [in error] is diabolical)

Sometimes, turning back is a better consequence than continuing down the wrong path beyond a reasonable distance. It is understandable that GOG may be moving slowly on addressing this situation, given current events, but it is still something where the best choice is to turn back, not to keep walking and hope for the best.
Well. Guess I better mention that, in german, "konsequent sein" means as much as "to be consistent", maybe even "to be strict", and that's the meaning of the word in that saying. Not the meaning of actual, "after the fact consequences". Maybe now it makes more sense.

But, yeah.

Thanks, I just reverted back.
I've been looking forward to version 2, but only when it's out of beta wich it clearly still is with all the problems that exists and it saying beta in settings...
Thank you for putting this post together. This works great. 2.0 is just not fully baked at this point and should stay in beta for a long time.

In that case, however, to be consistent is only good when you are being consistently good. If your original action was a bad decision, remaining consistent with that action is not a good thing.

well yes, but that's the point of the saying.

basically "for better or worse we have chosen our path." it says nothing about the goodness or badness of the original choice. only the attitude being displayed by the person following that kind of reasoning.
This is my new favorite thread on gog! Thank you so much, BlackSun!
I did most of the 'tutorial', but couldn't find the following:

:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy ...
... \autoupdate
... \autoupdate-verified
... \temp\desktop-galaxy-updater

I toasted:
... \redists\GalaxyUpdater.exe
... \selfupdate.json

I also added the /runWithoutUpdating to the shortcut as advised.

I haven't run the program yet. I chose not to start it right away once t installed. Really appreciate the advice. Awaiting your reply.
... \autoupdate = only gets made when the update is started
... \autoupdate-verified = a folder made | used to install the update... & left behind afterwards
... \temp\desktop-galaxy-updater = the folder used to download the files

all three will only be in your system after the updates have kicked in so not having them is a good thing mate... also not starting Galaxy 1 makes no difference to if the software decides to update so go ahead and fire it up
