Got an email today from GOG:

"Your GOG GALAXY 2.0 application may not be up to date.
Please check if it’s on version 2.0.15. "

While it's mildly amusing that they accidentally pushed an update that broke further updates, the best part about the email is that it's ambiguous. It could mean:

"Please check if you have GOG Galaxy v2.0.15, in which case you are affected by this bug and must upgrade manually"
or
"Please check if you have GOG Galaxy v2.0.15. If you do, then you don't have to do anything."

(The latter is the intended meaning, but it could as easily mean either.)
The email is not ambiguous if you take the time to read it...

This is important as due to a bug in the previous version of the application, you may not be able to receive any future updates to GOG GALAXY 2.0.
Well I was on 2.0.14.254 so I assumed that meant I needed to download the installer and reinstall to upgrade to 2.0.15.

I ran the installer without uninstalling Galaxy first hoping it'll just overwrite it with the newer version, but the installer stopped stating the latest version was already installed.

So I uninstalled Galaxy and ran the installer again. I was then back on 2.0.11.2, but leaving the app open, I have an update notice for 2.0.15 and now I am on 2.0.15.43.
this just makes the whole "let's push our broken beta client to all customers" story even more ridiculous.
and it shows again how unprofessional and reckless all this is being handled.

it makes me angry at best and it definitely keeps me from growing my game library with gog. ugh.

It's slowing my progress down. Not at the severity of "literally causing health problems" like Steam has been for over 6 months now, but still making me think twice before throwing money their way. And being better than Steam in its current state is a little like being better than Ubisoft, not really a compliment so much as "even comparing you favourably to this is an insult".

This thing is obnoxious for a couple of reasons, but my main concern is security. The email says to go to gogalaxy.com to download it, but that is not a domain that I use or trust. I do business with gog.com . I am not going to install something from another domain. And for the life of me, I cannot find a link on gog.com to download the latest GOG Galaxy client.

And the Galaxy client provides no reasonable way to see what version it is, or to check for updates.

I'm concerned about security too. I don't usually get an email like this, I get a message when I boot up saying the latest version of GOG Galaxy is available for download, click here to continue. That's why I've gone to their site to find out what the latest version is.....but I can't find it anywhere....sigh. :(

You're telling me you don't see the "Download GOG Galaxy" box at the bottom of your screen?
It is unclear to me.. If im on 2.0.15 that means i won't have problems? or is 2.0.15 the version with problem?

Not to mention not every games is used to checking versions in applications.

Simple instruction where to look for it would go long way as well...

What I find worrying about it is that it appears as if it could be a phishing mail.

The link provided to download the new version is gogalaxy.com, which is not the same as if I navigate the website to download Galaxy, where it's gog.com/galaxy
The email address used is galaxy@email.gog.com - this style of address (the "@email.domain") is often used when addresses are either spoofed or non-genuine.
Fun part: I hadn't received this email previously, but received it seemingly in direct response to my decision to revert the client - seconds after signing into the reverted 1.2 client.

I believe in coincidences, but I get the impression that this isn't one.

Also it was flagged as spam by my email service.

Well, the prior update to Galaxy before the forced beta upgrade was supposed to have fixed a security issue with the updater (local privilege elevated to System). I'm guessing when they "patched it", they ended up breaking it. They were probably rushing.
I actually got suspicious to the email because i could not find a single official announcement about this bug anywhere on this forum or the GoG main page. Plus the download link was significantly different from the normal GoG Galaxy start page or its download link. I ended up verifying the mail with Support just to make sure it wasn't a phishing attempt.

It's legit, just poorly communicated.

Didn't affect me anyway as I'm on 2.0.15.43.

It looked like a phishing scam to me.

What is gogalaxy.com?

After now checking I know it's gog related, but my initial reaction is that it was junk/spam mail.

My email also seems to think it was a spam email. And I'd have agreed with it EXCEPT that the email came through immediately in response to me logging into Galaxy 1.2 - so they noted the login on an older version after I'd logged into 2.0 and contacted me, apparently thinking it was a glitch. When it's definitely not a glitch, it's a deliberate decision to revert to the last stable version of the client.
