Shadow Warrior, Serious Sam 1st,2nd, Unreal games, Blood series, and other action-packed shooters 50% off

This weekend we thought we might throw a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/fps_weekend_promo_240513]FPS Flashbomb your way. Don't worry--we do that with no intention of injuring you. It's all fun and games after all. Shooting virtual guns at digital living things (and on-screen mechanical foes) is satisfying and entertaining. That's a fact no one can ignore. That's why the First Person-perspective Shooter genre (commonly abbreviated as FPS) has been popular ever since it began, and it looks like it's not going to lose its charm to gamers in the foreseeable future. With fast and action-filled gameplay these games offer, every second of talk is a second wasted, so let's get fraggin'!

So what's in the FPS Flashbomb, you might ask? There's a nice piece of the genre's history in the form of Catacombs Pack if you want too see how it all began. Then, witness how it evolved and got really bad-ass with Duke Nukem 3D Complete Edition, and how it kept on throwing one-liners with Serious Sam: The First Encounter and The Second Encounter. Witness how immersive things got with Unreal Gold, and how competitive the genre has become with Unreal Tournament 2004 ECE. Or maybe you just want to have some gory and politically incorrect fun? We've got you covered Shadow Warrior is here as well.

Enough talk, let's shoot somethin! Head out to the promo page, to see all of the great FPS games we offer 50% off until Tuesday, May 28 at 3:59AM GMT.

Ric1987: SS2 is not as good as those games

Leroux: You know that writing things like this could easily be misinterpreted as blasphemy here, right? I nearly got a heart attack, before I realized you were talking about Serious Sam! ;)
Didn't think of that, lol. Yes I meant Serious Sam 2.

I still need to buy System Shock 2, I've never played it.

Me neither, actually, I'm just kidding. There was a time when you could spot those three characters in every second thread, so it's weird to see them referring to something else now. :)

mistermumbles: Lastly, I'm looking at Blood 2 and Riddick... mainly because of the Atari thing and the possibility of losing a bunch of their games, yet I'm not really all that sold on either. Knowing myself I probably shouldn't buy them seeing how in the past during such situations I bought games I've barely played due to lack of real interest or I didn't enjoy them all that much. Any thoughts?
I went into Blood 2 somewhat recently, putting my mental state into "okay, it's not Blood, don't even think of it as Blood", but that didn't even help. It's a really horrible game, and deserving of its poor status.

Riddick is interesting. It's not an oldschool FPS, and really not much of a shooter nor is it always first person, but it's a really good game.

timppu: EDIT: But I am still a bit interested to check out the Catacomb games, but I recall I considered them too crude even back in the day..
They were fairly crude even back in the early 90's, especially after Doom was released. But the one I played back then, Abyss, was still fun. I'm not sure how they stand up to time, but I'll soon find out ...
Hm, Unreal sales everywhere. I waited for this a looong time, but not I can't choose. Pick from GOG Unreal 2 with extras, DRM free, patched up, best edition and 100% to run Win7. Or pick up the Unreal pack from Steam 10 € which contains UT3 and the other Unreal titles.

GOG.com: Then, witness how it evolved and got really bad-ass with Duke Nukem 3D Complete Edition,
I wonder if Complete Collection is an indication that we are going to see the addons (Duke It Out in DC, Nuclear Winter, Caribbean Beach) soon.
Great promo, included good classics.

tinyE: Someone sell me on Unreal. I was always under the impression is was 90% MP but all of a sudden I'm not so sure. For sure if it is mostly MP than I'm not interested but I'd like to hear about it from some of the fine folks in here that have actually played it. In addition if there are any other FPS you can compare these too I'd be grateful.

Thanks! :D
It has a great score (same guy who did the music for Deus Ex). A quite unique and immersive world that mixes Sci=fi, fantasy and Aztec/Inca environments. Hard compared to the standards of late 90's shooters. It still looks beautiful. Has a Good backstory told through text. And it has a Rocket launcher that can fire 8 shots all at once.
Hope some of that temps you.

I think the best comparison I can give is the original Half-life. Fast, Liner but with a adventure/exploration element. Puzzles thrown in that are well integrated into the environments, and most similarly and strong feeling of being trapped and alone on a hostel world that you don't understand.

tarasis: The FPS bomb seems well timed with The Game Music Bundle selling the Duke Nukem soundtracks (and remix album) and complete Shadow Warrior among other ones.
Just went and looked at the Music Bundle, some really good music in there. Just wish I had known of them before, I would have bought the last one too.

Hay-ho, hay-ho, it's off to spluge I go...
Unfortunately, GOG picked the worst possible time to have an Unreal sale. Steam has the whole series including UT3 for just $10 right now.
Yeah, but I buy on GoG, and I don't buy on Steam.

Only problem is that I already own everything from this sale that I would want.

Tarhiel: What do you mean, "new one"? There´s new Shadow Warrior on the way?
avatar
Smannesman: Yep, the guys from Hard Reset are working on it I think.
So far there's only a CGI trailer though.
It is NOT a CGI trailer, it is in game.
Blood 1 and Blood 2 I would like to try

And you know this because you work for Devolver?
It's definitely not gameplay footage.
LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING The Unreal!
Everyone who puhsed it on me gets a big sloppy wet kiss from yours truly should we ever meet in person!

This is from now on the only place I go to for reviews and recommendations be it for games, pc parts, or tampons.
YOU ALL ROCK!
