This week, we’ve prepared the greatest adventures from Activision--and more for a total of more than 50 games--[url=http://www.gog.com/promo/activision_weekend_promo_310513]all available for 50% off until Monday, June 3rd at 11.59 p.m. EDT.

If you like kings, and quests thereof, the best way to start your weekend is via our King's Quest collections. Kings Quest 1, 2, & 3; Kings Quest 4, 5, & 6, and Kings Quest 7 + 8 all combined tell a sweeping tale of generations of heroes who work ceaselessly to protect the magical realms of Daventry. With clever puzzles, charming graphics, moving stories, and a grand cast of characters, this series is one of the hallmarks of the adventure genre for a reason.

Maybe you're an adventurer, but one more in the vein of a hero of derring-do; a dashing rogue, a brawling fighter, or a wise and crafty wizard. No worries, we have just the thing for you: The Complete Quest for Glory series. Starting as a hero who's learned everything that the Famous Adventurer's Correspondance School has to offer, you begin in the town of Spielberg, determined to right the wrongs that plague the sleepy hamlet. Originally billed as "three games in one" due to the fact that different character classes dramatically change the style of the playthrough, this series takes you from the humblest beginnings of heroism to the grand and sweeping heights of fame and fortune. Travel the world, save the girl, and right wrongs. It doesn't get any better!

The Zork Anthology offers you the chance to play the original (like the first ever) adventure games Zork I, Zork II, Zork III, Beyond Zork, Zork Zero, and Planetfall. The Zork saga is text adventuring at its finest. Welcome to the Underground. Your greatest challenge lies ahead – and downwards. Return to Zork is rediscovery of the previous adventures, but now with graphics (live actors and video sequences.) and a superb soundtrack. Zork: Nemesis, another part in the franchise offers spectacular production value--Hollywood actors, dramatic live-action video, hypnotic ambient music and dazzling special effects. Zork: Grand Inquisitor is the last installment of the famous Zork adventure series. It uses the same formula as its predecessor: first-person perspective, 360 degree camera rotation, pre-rendered backgrounds, and live actors. Humor and comical pop-culture references accompany you throughout the entire game and guarantee that you will never get bored. So if you are looking for a not so serious oldschool adventure then this gem is for you. All games releases from Zork series are $2.99 on GOG.com this weekend only.

Another confusingly named pack of awesome old games. I looked at this and thought, Wait, almost all of these are Sierra published games... Oh right. :p lol

lovcat: D'oh. Payday is next week. Thing Kings Quest 4-5-6 will go on sale again someday? Like a summer sale thing? Maybe?

JMich: Could be soon, could be late. Either way, check PM, and when you can, pay it forward.
Thanks so much! I will for sure :)

I saw the e-mail title for this promo and got excited for a second at Vampire The Masquerade, then realized it is the game before Bloodlines. :(

Crap, have been waiting for this promo for ages and now I really can't afford it. Talk about bad timing. <.<
Which of these is the weakest link?

King's Quest. But that is like asking which of the following car manufacturers is the weakest, Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini.
Damn you GOG! Do you have to keep giving us such downright amazing sales all the time? My wallet is going to run away for good if you keep this up! I just got the Krondor pack, Arcanum, and the Quest for Glory pack for under $11, how fricken awesome! Thanks, and damn you!

Is Zork comparable? Text-based looks like a nice change of pace?

No idea, since I haven't played it. It is one of the pillars of games though, so it depends on what you are looking for. I'm sure there will be a few people willing to give a more detailed description, or you could try looking at the Zork forums here.
Hmm hmm. Nice promo. I think I'll grab Caesar 3..

I can only speak for Grand Inquisitor and Nemesis, but both are fine adventures, although they're poles apart from each other in terms of tone. Inquisitor has some great humour along with a really nice spell system that makes for some unique and clever puzzles (I'd love more adventures in that style, there's only really this one that I know of). That's in addition to the more traditional inventory puzzles although many of those have refreshing twists iirc. It's a lot of fun, with a tongue in cheek story :D

In contrast, Nemesis is dark in its tone and is quite grisly at times, in a good adult way. It's got great atmosphere throughout but again has nice puzzles, just different ones to the comedy style of GI. If you want a serious adventure in an unusual setting, this is a good one. A very good one, actually.

It's amazing how different two games from the same series can be, but both directions work well. Either stands alone fine; they're the only Zork games I've played and neither relies on knowing anything about the other Zork titles at all, although there's probably a lot of references in there if you had.

Edit: Both of those are graphic adventures, not text, so you probably just meant the original anthology - having spectacularly missed that point, in my defence I'll add that they are both great games and worth grabbing :D

And for your weakest link, I actually haven't played much of King's Quest or any of QFG, but I can say that the Gabriel Knight games are must buys! :) There's a good reason why they're so well loved, they're amongst the best of the adventure genre and all three are excellent games with great stories.
