I know some of you will call me a wuss, but I often use trainers for games either when I get stuck, or just want to try everything in games where lack of money prevents you.

I'm fairly new to GoG but I've already built up a decent collection of games on my 'shelf', but two of the games I'd like to cheat with are Iron Storm and Port Royale.

Unfortunately, all of the trainers I've downloaded for both of them either don't work or (in the case of PR), simply crash you out of the game to the desktop.

Is this normal - because they are GoG versions of the games or do some trainers work OK?

uhm do you try to run them out of windows or dosbox?
do note that obviously you need to run the trainer through dosbox.

sometimes it might differ on what version you have, but its not because its gog that it wouldnt work.

Just FYI: I was able to use a trainer on Prince of Persia. I believe it came from here: http://www.cheathappens.com/
"do you try to run them out of windows or dosbox?"

Neither of the games I mentioned use DosBox and I'm running them in XP SP3.

I'll check out CH, but I'm pretty sure when I last looked they had the same trainers I currently have. In fact I may even have downloaded the ones I'm having problems with from there...

Yep - just been and checked. Both the PR trainers I have were from there and they simply don't work.

What I have noticed though is that my version of PR from GoG is 1.4.0.3, but the ryst trainer I downloaded from CH is for 1.0.0.4!

I know you always get the latest patches with GoG games, and that seems to be the most recent one. So, I assume that's only going to cause problems if you are looking for trainers.

Actually, I've just downloaded CheatEngine, so maybe I'll have better luck with that!... :)
Getting trainers that work with GOG releases is often difficult as trainers usually are not only specific to the version (v1.0.0.4 vs v1.4.0.3 for instance) but also original vs cracked - and who cracked it (flt vs razor or whatever). What I do is using CE, and if I'm unable to figure out how to do specific cheats, I go have a look at CH or GCW - sometimes I'm lucky.

It'd be kind of nice to have a CE "database" for the GOG releases, perhaps on the wiki. No executables, only CE's own files (can't remember the name right now) - you can easily create your own trainer exe from CE using those, if you prefer.

</my 2 cents>
