cich: I hate to intrudge on your conversation but, seriously, Syberia 1 is absolutely a complete game. It didn't require a sequel. The open ending makes the whole narrative stronger, more meaningful and fits the game perfectly. Everything that mattered was concluded in a satisfactory way.

Psyringe: By all means _do_ intrude. I never played Syberia myself (yet ;) ), I only have second-hand information about it (like SLP2000 has about Montague's Mount), so I definitely welcome statements from people with first-hand experience of the game. :)

But if the story of Syberia 1 really provided closure for at least some of it's story arcs, then this is already a fundamental difference to Montague's Mount - because there, literally nothing does. There are three main story arcs, of which two are left hanging completely, and the third has one important detail revealed at the end of the game. The narrator then tells you "I need to find out more. I need to go to Montague's Mount". And then the outro starts and tells you that you need to buy an as-of-yet unreleased and unannounced sequel for that.

I haven't seen the ending of Syberia, but I'm confident that it's not on _that_ level. ;)
Syberia concentrates on exploring certain themes and developing the protagonist. These story arcs are great and complete. In a way they actively fight with the plot of the game all along the way, and that's why it may seem incomplete. There's a reason why people don't like the sequel as much as the original - it didn't need to exist, we didn't need to see what we already knew.

Actually, I'm surprised you didn't play it :) It would fit your adventuring needs perfectly.

Also, a better example for your discussion would probably be Still Life. This one had a cliffhanger that everyone seemed to hate.

I think so too, that's why I'm keeping it in the backlog for some future special occasion or mood ... like others might do with a bottle of good wine. ;)

To be honest, I'm not sure if there _is_ a good example for the way how Montague's Mount leaves every single question open in its ending. I _did_ play games with stories that seemed unfinished, but Montague's Mount honestly plays in a whole different league.

That's a great metaphor :D
Syberia has such a fantastic atmosphere that a comparison to a bottle of good wine fits perfectly.

GOG, are you going to be putting Deponia 3 for preorder? I've gotten all Daedalic games(except Memoria) from here and would love to get Deponia 3 as well
Regarding "Montague's Mount": The developer has responded to my mini-review on Greenlight, and has also introduced himself on GOG. He clarifies that the game has been split in two parts, of which the currently released product is the first. The product description will be fixed to reflect the actual product better. It seems that the somewhat silly stance of "This is a complete product containing all previously planned episodes" has been dropped, which makes me hopeful that an honest effort will be made to fix this.

We now return to Manos...the hands of fate.
So Thursday is the official day for Carmag- I mean Enigmatic release, is that right?

Also, I wonder if the Anniversary celebration can be considered over with the Witcher promo.
