Detective-mystery meets paranormal thriller!
A season pass for Cognition. An Erica Reed Thriller, an episodic point-and-click adventure story packed with challenging puzzles, branching paths, and a disquieting mood, is available on GOG.com 33% off. That's only $19.99 for the first week.
Erica Reed is an exceptional detective, but being special always comes at a price. Her extraordinary gift, allowing her a peek into the past by simply touching an object, makes her the ultimate bloodhound, and yet, causes excruciating mental pain. Her own past is marred irreparably by a personal tragedy. Can she conquer her demons by solving one morbid case after another, or will the unfading shadow of her brother's killer torment her forever? The mystery thickens, as someone starts leaving clues, that can only be uncovered with the use of Erica's unique ability. Who? Why? Can the troubled detective last long enough to find out?
So wait a minute--a season pass?
This may be something new for some of you, so we wanted to let you guys know what we mean by "Season Pass."Cognition. An Erica Reed Thriller consists of four episodes (fourth of which will be released on GOG.com, on 19 September 2013), each of them investigating a seemingly unrelated murder case. Each mystery is its own self-contained game, and when you buy a season pass you'll get all of the games in the "season". You're essentially preordering a season of episodic games. In this case, we already have Episodes 1, 2, and 3 available right now, so you're only preordering Episode 4, which is coming out in a week's time. By buying a season pass now, you're saving 33% off the price of the full season. So if this looks like your kind of thing, picking it up now saves you $9.99.
Uncover dark mysteries behind grisly killings and lead detective Erica Reed to absolution over four tension-filled episodes of Cognition. An Erica Reed Thriller, available DRM-free on GOG.com, for only $19.99. The offer lasts until Thursday, September 19, at 5:59AM GMT.

xep624: Wow... Episodic games... In that case I'll wait a while with my purchase of Walking Dead Season 1... I hope that this game will arrive here before XMas...

coldalarm: The release info says the last episode is out next week...

Sadly, due to over-bundling of the first two episodes, $20 is kinda high ($30 higher still). You could easily get the first three episodes for something like $6 without any effort whatsoever for the most part (including most of the bonuses), so $14-24 for the final episode is laughable.
I think they're giving away discount codes if you own the previous episodes

Can someone comment on how the episodic format affects the story? How coherent and flowing is it?

With no explanation as to what the discount is or might be, and no guarantee that you'll even get one. Excellent.
"Includes: Episode 1: The Hangman, Episode 2: The Wise Monkey, Episode 3: The Oracle and Episode 4: The Cain Killer (coming September 19th). "

Wait what?

So it includes all the episodes but the fourth one is not released yet, right?
Nice to see this game come to GOG. Great addition!

Correct :)
Kind of weird way to do this, releasing a "season pass" for a game that will be complete in a week. Was it so important to have this game here that you just couldn't wait a week? I suppose it's serving the same purpose as a pre-order.

I'd say that first two episodes focus on an unique killer cases while there is also a storyline slowly unwrapping in background. Third episode shifts and you basically prepare youself for the finale.
There are always jokes and references to previous episodes. It isn't like characters suddenly forget they had done something in episode 1.

EDIT: For example, I really like that you can read case files in Erica's computer you dealt with in previous episodes.

There, I bought it. Now what do I get for supporting GOG ?
This looks awesome but I have quite a few detective adventures in my backlog already, I'll pick it up in the future when I'm done with them or if there is better sale. Or maybe later this week even, I sometime do things on impulse like how I double dipped in the current get 5 games for 80%.

Does every episodes feel like a full game or 1/4 of one in duration?
This reminds me of another episodic game I have a soft spot for:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/72900/

Wouldn't mind it on GOG now that their doing this thing

Warm glowing feeling and the license to complain on the forums a few times.

To expand on this--the discount varies depending on how many episodes you already own. So:

- if you have 3 episodes, the Season Pass is only $9.99
- if you have 2 episodes, the Season Pass is only $15.99
- if you have one episode, the Season Pass is $22.99

I hope that helps clear it up. :)

Last episode is in beta, so I say yes.

I think the bundling was to try to get some word of mouth exposure. Initially I don't think this was on any major distributors which would really cut back on sales.

I'll pick this up after I play the first two if I enjoy them.
