Wing Commander 5: Prophecy, a legendary space combat sim presenting the chronicle of a whole new interdimensional conflict in the Wing Commander universe, is available for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

You thought the feline Kilrathi were a fearsome foe? You've seen nothing yet, of the horrors the Universe is ready to unleash upon humanity! In Wing Commander 5: Prophecy, the interdimensional gateways open and the galaxy is invaded by a insectoid menace more deadly and terrifying than anything the indigenous sentient races have ever seen. Luckily enough, the humans have the cat warriors on their side this time. With a set of new characters, many new ships, and a terrible new conflict, this entry in the Wing Commander saga delivers a whole new level of challenge and excitement, that made it an unforgettable classic. Battle stations!

Wing Commander 5: Prophecy is the last in a long line of classic space combat simulators. You'll take on the role of Lance Casey as he performs dangerous missions for the Confederacy while on assignment on the TCS Midway. Engage in conversation via glorious late 90s FMV with your fellow crew mates. Match your wits and skill in space combat against an all-new alien threat whose coming was foretold by an ancient Kilrathi prophecy of the end of the universe. Arm yourself with a vast variety of death-dealing weaponry and fight back the enemy!

If you are a fan of space-sims your collection won't be complete without this classic, explosive title. Get Wing Commander 5: Prophecy, on GOG.com, for only $5.99
Its a good game, but Wing Commander IV was much better, because of that I remember to be a bit disppointed by the time it was released, anyway I´m glad to see it here. I won´t pay the full price as I did with Wing Commander IV but I will buy it for sure on the next EA promo.

Not the best Wing Commander. But at least it has enough of the trademarks of the series' 90s high-water points (heart-pounding space-sim arcade action, strong FMV-driven story delivered by veteran and astute actors) to merit a decent finale for the single-player series of games. A long-awaited and welcome addition to round out the WC games ranks on GOG, along with Privateer 2's addition last month.
I've been looking forward to this one. Thanks GOG.
I'm more or less sure that the End User License Agreement you're required to accept to purchase this game means it can't be copied to any media in the universe (ie. downloaded into your computer and then copied to a pen drive or anything at all) and that you need to install Origin's client (ie. EA's version of the Steam client) to play.

The part about copying the game seems very focused on a game that comes in a physical disc, because in a quick read for me it just means you can't be copying it from GOG to your home computer.

But I might be wrong.
I never even knew a 5th installment was released. That year was part of a gap in my PC gaming history.

Speaking of joysticks, I think I still have this wonderful piece of equipment at my parent's house:

The good old days, when you had to plug in a joystick into the game port AND the PS/2 port so you could map key presses to the buttons. :)

No game on GOG requires you to install a client to play. All the EA games have this license. The license is fairly generic and states installing Origin "may" be required to access the software and download updates.

Damn, so I don't know if anyone here has tried but I just followed the steps here:

With the enhancement patches and new movie files, but couldn't start the game due to a fatal error...
Ive been waiting for this one, thanks GOG.
I wish the Wing Commander Prophecy soundtrack would be included with this GOG release, as it featured industrial metal bands like Rammstein, Fear Factory, and KMFDM, as well as British doom metal band Paradise Lost:

Just back form holiday and you bring this out wow what a way to come back.
Darn it. It's happened again, I missed an epic new release by almost 24 hours and might have missed it completely if I hadn't checked today (before it gets swallowed by newer ones). I'm doing something wrong it seems...

Anyway, awesome release! Aside from Privateer 2 the only WC game I never got to play originally. Oh well, it's time to make a run through the whole series, it seems.

You probably will get an answer here, but the fastest way to get help would be via the wcnews.com forums ;-)
Nice! I am sure to get it at some point. But for now, I buy that Dust: Elysian something game instead.
Thank you very much GOG, I was looking forward to this release. :)

FoxZero: Awesome! Time to complete my digital Wing Commander collection.

I still have yet to beat the first one. I think I'm just going to use my mouse instead of my old crappy joystick. I never complained about it while playing Freelancer.

AFnord: The first WC works best with a mouse anyway.

Anyway, thumbs up for this release. I already own this game twice though, so i don't need to buy it again.
Thanks. Good to know. I tried Wing Commander earlier this year with a mouse and was wondering why I was trying to use my joystick. Now I have no excuse not to give it another go lol
Will GOG and EA add the missing Wing Commander Prophecy Secret Ops missions to the release at some point later?

I remember downloading those back in the 90's with a slow modem from EA's website, those were free addons to the game.

EDIT: Haha, I should learn to read, it was in the description: "Includes Wing Commander 5: Prophecy and the expansion Wing Commander: Secret Ops."

Thanks GOG!

It really is a shame that Wing Commander Prophecy was the last part, I remember the old PC Gamer hype articles were EA designers were promising that Prophecy is the first part of a new trilogy of Wing Commander games. The two other parts even had their own names already decided, I just don't remember what those were.
