All it's missing is a Belmont!

Valdis Story: Abyssal City, a sharp-looking metroidvania-type platformer, with dynamic fights full of eye-candy, and RPG elements adding another layer of depth to the gameplay, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's $11.99 for the first week!

It started off like one of the ancient Greek tragedies. Years ago, the goddess Valdis was killed by her daughter, the dark goddess Myrgato. Death, however, is something completely different for the immortal deities than it is for us, mortals. The name of the Goddess was never forgotten, nor shall it ever be. In absence of the mother goddess, Myrgato has been at war with her twin sister, Alagath the deity of light. This perpetual war is fueled by human souls that the gods use to create their warriors; Myrgato twisting souls into demons, and Alagath manipulating souls to create angels. Each day the remaining human population dwindles as they are forced to choose a side or die. The time has come to put a stop to the supernatural tyranny. With sword, and sorcery, the chosen champion of humanity must fight back.

Valdis Story: Abyssal Cityis a new and exciting metroidvania-type title that takes inspiration from the best 16-bit console action titles, both in aesthetics and gameplay. This side-scrolling exploration platformer tasks you with conquering an ancient, forgotten city full of supernatural enemies. The game focuses on combat, and lets you heavily customize gameplay by developing the skills of your chosen character. Whether you choose to dedicate yourself more the path of sorcery or swordsmanship, this exciting and dynamic title is ready to offer you a worthy challenge.

For a grand story, many colorful location, items, skills, and challenging, but fair gameplay resembling the most memorable 16-bit console classics, grab Valdis Story: Abyssal City, for only $11.99 on GOG.com. The 20% off release discount offer lasts until Wednesday, November 13, at 10:59AM GMT.
Looks like Devil May Cry in 2D, which is a good thing in my book.

Mentalepsy: Well, it looks decent, but I'm skeptical. As usual. If this is another one of those "unique and heartwarming gems" that a toddler can beat before nap time, I'm not interested.

I'll see what I can find out today.
Well, it's most definitely above casual difficulty. The boss fights aren't all that easy to decipher at first, at least for me although I may have declined over the years :P, even with a map I kept getting lost a bit. I also don't recall too much handholding in the form of "here's your quest, here's your marker for it, oh and don't forget this lovely arrow that will tell you where to go". Keep in mind, it's been a while since I played but I usually remember extreme handholding in a game :)

It is really hard even on normal difficulty, and there is no easy. I've played about 13 hours and I think I'm nearing the end so it's not the shortest game. There's no handholding, the game tells what you need to do and that's it, you can discover the map on your own as you just get appropriate magic to progress. If you've played Guacamelee this is kind of like that in how it handles the combat skills. The magic you use in combat are also used in platforming and solving puzzles. There is backtracking like in many Metroidvania games. And combat itself can get complicated with the dash/skill cancel mechanic that's used to get bigger combo. This is definitely not a game that toddler can beat before nap time, nor just a nice nostalgia trip with 16bit graphics. It's really competent game on its own without relying on nostalgia

Since Devil May Cry was essentially Metroid/Castlevania (from SotN onwards) in 3D, we're right back where we started.
Bought this game on the dev's website about a month ago and it's pretty awesome if you like metroidvanias and action-RPGs (both my favorite genres). I think I'm going to pick it up here again just to have it on my GOG shelf.

Nice release!
hmm not too sure about this one.

Im damn indecisive of late, still toying with the charity thing. Wonder if it would let me pick Driftmoon 3 times for gifting....

lugum: No, 1 code.
1 code wouldn't be an issue, the issue is i don't think it lets you choose the same game more than once in a bundle
Excellent, I'm glad to see this here finally!

JudasIscariot: Barry will be happy as Valdis was one of his wishlisted items :P
Ha! My guess is Barry sees a lot of yellow text when he looks down the Community Wishlist.
Looks interesting, I'll wait for a sale.
Not my thing, sorry GOG.
