Classic coin-op excitement!

Raiden Legacy, a collection of four classic arcade vertical shoot 'em ups with pixel graphics and swarms of foes, is available 10% off on GOG.com for Windows and Mac. That's only $8.99 for the first week!

If you got to visit the arcades as a kid, you probably have some great childhood memories. There were few things nearly as exciting as blasting through the swarms of alien invaders, sweaty palms desperately gripping the controls, knowing that the final boss is just about to turn up, and that you're on your last quarter. Here's your chance to relive that experience with your computer screen full of flashing explosions, ears flooded by the sound of roaring supersonic jet engines, and great pixel-art coming at you from all directions. Not one, but four classic titles await arcade champions and brave contestants in this amazing collection.

Raiden Legacy revives one of the most memorable arcade shoot 'em up series, that excels in fast paced action with abundance of flying flashy projectiles and a great variety of enemies coming in waves from the top of the screen. There are--of course--some giant bosses to fight, lots of power-ups, and a great selection of weaponry. The Legacy consists of four independent titles updated with optional graphics filter: Raiden, Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2, and Raiden Fighters Jet, for a great value that can be recommended to all vertical arcade shooter fans. Make sure to grab a Player 2 and get double the fun!

Compared to the amounts of money we've all probably lost quarter by quarter as kids in the arcade, Raiden Legacy with its $8.99 pricetag on GOG.com looks like a bargain, especially for the unlimited play! The offer lasts until Thursday, May 23, at 9:59AM GMT.

agylardi: Aww. No Chaos Overlords today. Just found about it now. and I was hoping when I open GOG it will be New Release: Chaos Overlords :(

Oh well. I also like shmup, so I guess this games collection also good. But wish listed for now.

What other modern shmup that are also good ? and not the "bullet hell" type. Especially bullet hell that cannot use mouse for the control. Sometimes feel hopeless playing that kind of game.
I too am eager to see Chaos Overlords. It doesn't usually feel this long between the sorta-announcement of the announcement, and the actual announcement...

For a modern non-bullet-hell shmup, I recommend Who's That Flying? Delightful art style, mildly wacky storyline, interesting game mechanic variation (you can't be killed, but the city you're protecting can), and it's difficult but not impossible. I enjoyed it a lot. Then again, the shmup isn't one of my preferred genres, so my tastes may be unrepresentative.

Hillsy_: Nice to see them here, but why no Raiden II?? Favourite.
This really would be more accurately titled "Raiden Fighters Legacy" Raiden Fighters is an offshoot trilogy with a much faster pace and smaller play area than the comparatively stately Raiden 1, 2, DX, 3, and 4.

Consider Raiden 1 a bonus extra here, Raiden Fighters is one of the best series of shmups ever.

Dare I hope against hope that GOG starts localizing japanese shmup franchises already ported to PC like G-Darius, Raystorm, The Shikigami no Shiro trilogy, Raiden 3, etc?

Hmm. Never heard about that. But I'll search on it. Thanks for the info :)

Ah. Yes. I saw that and actually wanted to buy it. But that was the first time I know a shmup have $20 full price tag which made me reconsidering it. I know it became $9.99 now and I know this Raiden also around that price, but considering my games back logs, I just simply easily canceled the buying process. I guess I can still make the game into my wish list.

Wow! I already own all these titles on other platforms, but this is an awesome release!
Great!

I thought it existed only on Android and iOS (on which it's not that great to play) glad to see they also made a PC version.

Thanks for the info. Would you say Raiden Fighters is harder than the original Raiden series, as I have never played the Raiden Fighters series before. Interested in picking this up.
So these games basically R-type, except vertically scrolling instead of horizontally? I'm down with that.
since it's appropriate:

How come people suddenly like this release? I haven't heard about this game anything ever.. I just play Contra aka Probotector in arcadystyle.. You hated Anvil of Dawn more. Infact like some fellow said.. "there is some 1 person who said that said he doesn't like it as some".. ^^

If this like Gradius, I'm not interested.
Where are the extras? When I went to the game page, none were listed. Is this the first game without extras on GOG.com?
Spent quite a few quarters playing these on the arcades, awesome release
So can anyone tell me, is there some way of saving games between levels (or something similar) or will I have to play from start to finish in one sitting?

FlamingFirewire: Is this the first game without extras on GOG.com?
No. Manhole doesn't have any as I recall, and neither does Pandemonium. There may be a few more without extras, though it is rare.
I have two important questions before I pick this up, can someone please help?

1. Can you turn the annoying-as-hell borders off and play the games surrounded by only black screen?

2. Does this collection force filtering or can I choose to play with 1:1 pixellated visuals?

Anyone? Oh well, wishlisted for now.
