In the dark, not alone.

Penumbra Collection, a set of three gripping horror games with a thick atmosphere of overwhelming terror and rich, interactive environment, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next two days!

Cold sweat running down your back, heart racing, you feel your hands tremble as you rest them on your keyboard. This is only a game--you tell yourself--I can play it, I can get through this. But the dimmed lights, and the silence of the night, make you feel like the real world does not exist anymore. It's only you, and the dark mystery before you. You can almost smell the damp, frowzy corridor as you progress slowly towards the half-open door. The darkness behind it swirls and creeps as if it was more than just the absence of light. It's only a game, you tell yourself once more--but the fear is real. It does not come from the screen. It originates deep inside you. It was always there, and the game it's just a trigger. Deep inside you suspect that dark things do exist in this world. The most frightening thing is: you start to believe it.

Penumbra Collection features all three episodes of the sensational horror series: Overture, that began the story of lethal terror and insanity, Black Plague, which picks up the tale where the first game abruptly ends, and Requiem, providing a chilling conclusion to the series. You will face unspeakable nightmares in eerie settings that will send chills down your spine while you unravel their dark and unnerving mysteries. From the masters of gaming frights, that later developed the memorable Amnesia: The Dark Descent, comes this modern horror classic. If you're a fan of the genre, your collection simply won't be complete without it!

There's more terror in the world than we can possibly imagine. Turn, and face the darkness creeping behind your back in Penumbra Collection, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The 50% discount offer lasts 48 hours, that's until Thursday, August 1, at 9:59AM GMT.
I really enjoyed Amnesia. To buy or not to buy then? :>

Penumbra is the template upon which Amnesia was built. I still find Overture to be the most perfect (anyone who's got at least halfway through Black Plague can attest to why that might be), but you can pretty much skip Requiem, even if it does come in the bundle.

The lantern can't quite match the baleful aura of the glow stick...
Great release!
Neat! Will definitely pick them up later after I hew through some of my backlog.

petchema: Ah, there a Linux version ? That's a no-go here then :(
You did not know that the Penumbra series is on Linux? Glad I could be of aid then! Buy the game from a digital retailer that actually gives you the Linux version as well, or simply wait for GOG to support Linux.
Amnesia and now Penumbra: GOG really want my money these days :P
There's no forum for the series. Or i'm going blind, definitely one of the two.
Question for those who have played these games...

Do these games have visual effects similar to Amnesia? I wasn't able to finish Amnesia because those effects always gave me a headache.
Just had my first play of Overture - damn good stuff so far. Bodes well for the rest of it if the quality of writing, atmosphere, and puzzles continues to be upheld.
Played through all three a good while ago. Not bad, but not exactly scary once you figure out you can actually beat most critters to death in the first two.

That's why I consider Amnesia by far the better game because you're not given the tools/ability to really defend yourself. Definitely looking forward to Amnesia part duex.
So the countdown is on it seems.

IIRC, they do the whole squiggly thing, but only if you look at a monster for too long. I don't recall there being any squiggles just from being in the dark, like in Amnesia (in fact, I think being in the dark gives you night vision, turning everything blue).

It's been a few years though, so I might not be remembering correctly.

If memory serves, Overture makes your vision go blurry if you're looking at a monster when trying to hide. You can look at them freely if you're standing up.

tarasis: Nice release and great price. I already have it through buying it or a bundle (no idea which anymore) so it would be a bit daft buying it again here ... Except this way I'd get the PC version rather than the Mac version. Curses.
Well, if you got it through a bundle, you probably don't have the other two parts - just Overture, so there you go. :)

F4LL0UT: It's not *really* a Frictional Games title, it's being developed by The Chinese Room, the people you might remember from the snorefest that Dear Esther was.
Speaking of which, what is Frictional up to these days ?
