Rugged Rogue Redux!

Jack Keane, an adventure game full of daring deeds, valiant ventures, and sinister schemes that you will take on with Jack's trademark roguish charm, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first week!

Witness Jack's first grand adventure! Well, the first we have a record of, anyway. It's hard to say how his adventuring career actually started, as his past remains uncertain. It's suspected that he's an orphan and that he spent his early life on London's streets. He is no stranger to theft and mischief, but all who know him can attest that Jack's heart is in the right place and his soul is pure. How did he become a defender of the British Empire, a treasure hunter, and a famous traveler--nobody knows. Maybe this story can give us some answers?

Jack Keane is an adventure game full of movie-like qualities. We have a handsome protagonist who laughs in the face of danger while he saves the day and gets the girl. We have a beautiful heroine who, in turn, saves the hero. We have a gallery of villains plotting against our heroes' homeland, and a cast of supporting characters ready to deliver comedic relief. With colorful graphics, zany plot twists, and original story, Jack Keane is a worthy entry in any adventure fan's game collection!

High adventure calls as the British Empire calls upon its defender, Jack Keane. Witness it all for only $4.99 on GOG.com! The 50% discount offer lasts until Thursday, August 8, at 12:59PM GMT.

jamyskis: Setting 10,000 cycles works in high-res mode, but then causes mayhem when you try to switch to low-res mode.
And why would you do that?

eh, nevermind, both Theme Park games work perfectly for me, I'm just disappointed so little classics are being released lately.

GIMME DESERT STORM 2 GOG AND I WILL SHUT UP ;p

keeveek: Some write the solution is to set 10 000 cycles, but I don't know, the game runs fine for me in windowed 3x mode.

So, I'm gathering that Theme Park is a odd, special case amongst other Bullfrog DOS titles like Dungeon Keeper and Syndicate that run well in DOSBox. Is that more or less right?

Pretty much.

tfishell: December's EA Expansions, Cultures 1+2, Imperialism 2: The Age of Exploration, Avernum: The Complete Saga (although the 11.99 price tag does weird me out, lol), Leisure Suit Larry, Conquest: Frontier Wars, Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete (HIGHLY desired on the wishlist, so major props for it coming here), The Bard's Tale, Settlers 2®: 10th Anniversary, Cannon Fodder 2, Daikatana (historical purposes), System Shock™ 2, Sensible World of Soccer 96/97, various Apogee/3D Realms platformers, Blade of Darkness, Magic Carpet™ 2: The Netherworlds, Catacombs Pack, Clive Barker's Undying, Syndicate Wars™, Krush Kill ‘N Destroy 2: Krossfire, Strike Commander, Children of the Nile Complete, Cultures: Northland, Subwar 2050, Anvil of Dawn, Raiden Legacy, Wizardry 6-8, Chaos Overlords, Jade Empire: Special Edition, etc.
I knew I was happy with gog's releases this year. Thanks for clarifying why...
I like how people are so excited by this release that most of the posts are about getting Theme Park to run properly. :D

LOL, was just thinking the same.

I think it's just a bit of a blah game -- not incredibly good, but not roaringly bad either, so most people are pretty "Meh" about it.

Like I said, I'll probably buy it eventually but I'm more interested in hearing about Theme Park in case I decide to buy that :)

To be honest, everrything about Jack Keane that made it worth or not worth buying was already brought up when the second part came out first. There's nothing left to discuss.

IAmSinistar: Was rather hoping for something I couldn't get elsewhere, or which at least was more obscure. Afraid I'll be giving this a miss, though the Papers, Please pre-order has the potential to meet my previously stated criteria.
I played the demo of that and it was really blah. But......I've heard it's been fleshed out a lot more since then, so it might be worth a second look when it's released.

With an American accent?

Jack's cosmopolitan! (Or someone didn't give the voice talent the character's background--that's an option too).
Nice to see another new game added to GOG catalogue :). The thing is, I have been playing The Book of Unwritten Tales. I didn't enjoy it but it made me think. It's done by German Nordic Games. Gameplay was dragging and jokes were "Look, I am a dump blonde *wink wink WINK*" kind of funny. Some time ago I played two different games from German Daedalic Entertainment. And Secret Files, Ankh, Venetica and so on. All these games share two traits - They are from German and they use unfunny humour.

I searched for all German comedy games and discovered that I have at least tried a majority of them and I liked only Everlight. It seems that German gamey humour doesn't sit well with me and I should stick with stuff like The Guild, Desperados or The Moment of Silence. Or succumb to next summer sale and regret the decision later.

nice to have this here

can you also complete all other incomplete series?

Legacy of Kain? Journeyman project? System shock? Settlers?
Woot! Now can buy both... as soon as my wallet recovers from the AC dying ;)
Nothing for me today. Hope next week is better in terms of old games (Where are the remaining of the Apogee/3D Realms games? Or the old Epic classics pre-Unreal days?)
It looks like a good way to spend an evening.

For some reason the protagonist makes me think of Uncharted.
