The future is furry!

Inherit the Earth, a classic point-and-click adventure game set in the post-human times when animals take over, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99

Is there a place for humankind in Earth's future? Many would argue that the planet is ours and we will inhabit it for as long as it can nurture life. This might not be the case. In this amazing story, humans are but the stuff of legends, a thing of the past long gone. Animals are the new rulers and they starting to resemble us in many ways, taking on our merits and flaws as a species. There is much uncertainty about the fate of humans and the origins of the animals civilization, and there are many secrets to uncover. One unwilling adventurer will face all the mysteries he wouldn't even dream of as his quest to clear his good name takes him on an unexpected journey.

Inherit the Earth tells an intriguing story of mystery and magic by the means of classic point-and-click adventure gameplay. It sports excellent pixel-art graphics that makes the future world vivid and the anthropomorphic characters believable. The quest that lies before Rif of the Fox Tribe, our main protagonist, is involving and it will keep you entertained down to the last click. If you enjoy point-and-click adventures of the 1990s, make sure not to miss this original little gem.

Venture into the woodland future and witness the adventure of our furry descendants in Inherit the Earth, for only $5.99.

DukeNukemForever: Very sad decision to use an own port instead of dosbox or scummvm, especially since the game should work very well with both and so the use of an own port very likely complicates the support for gog. The only reason I see to use a port instead of scummvm or dosbox is to prohibit the use of the game on other devices like tablets or smartphones.

Btw, since a few days a new scummvm is out with support for Journeyman Project Pegasus Prime. Anyone knows if the publisher will use scummvm or also use it's own port for the game?
What is an "own port?"

Are you saying that this isn't the original game?

This is the developers own Windows port of a game they originally made for DOS, to the best of my understanding.

Crosmando: Pegasus Prime is indeed coming to GOG, using ScummVM.

Strangely enough, the original was exclusive to something called the Apple Pippin, a computer which I have never heard of.
It wasn't exclusive... it came out on MacOS too (which is what this ScummVM version is based on I think) and also the Playstation.

Yes. Similar to Wizardry GOLD or the 7th Guest & 11th hour. In all these cases the original DOS versions would be better in handling.

That's depends on how you define original game. Regarding a post here you can't use the files with dosbox or scummvm (and so are not completely the original files included), the game runs only with it's own windows executable.

Thiev: right-click 'itewin.exe' and under compatibility tab check 'run in 640x480'
That should fix small window problem in fullscreen
That's still not ideal... the original in DOSBox or ScummVM would have a lot more display options and probably a lot less prone to all the problems people are complaining about. Would it be possible to use the DOS version, or do you need separate permission from the developer?
avatar
SirPrimalform: At least if you have all those files you can always load it up in DOSBox. Usually if GOG gives you a ScummVM version, some of the files necessary for running it in DOSBox will be missing.

So in my opinion, DOSBox releases are superior because then you have the choice.
Well yes, that's what I do. But I was thinking of the newbs who might not even know what DOSBox or ScummVM are, and just play the games from GOG, because ScummVM would give a better "default" play.

Could be that they own the assets and trademark of the original game, which they used to make a Windows port. But they don't own the original DOS version, as it was published by New World Computing.

Well it's certainly more optimised, but since I want the options I'd have to say that DOSBox releases are better. Besides, I hate the way ScummVM handles scaling, DOSBox's options in that regard are a lot more flexible.

Hmmm... I'm afraid if I get this it'll end up being like Wizardry 7 Gold, which by the way is an absolute joke and should be an extra rather than part of the main deal. The DOS version of Wizardry 7 is much, MUCH better but is included as an extra.

So in this case they ported the game from DOS to Windows and then back to DOS? Or is this just the Windows version?

Perhaps this depends on the game? I've played the first Lands of Lore many times, original floppy and cd versions on my old 486 DOS PC, later with DOSBox and then with ScummVM. In this case, I could'nt see any difference. Same with Legend of Kyrandia, Laura Bow 2: Dagger of Amon Ra, Robin Hood: Conquests of the Longbow. But the original Broken Sword was a lot better with ScummVM, no Disc change and a flawless gameplay.

I wish you could say "start your GOG downloader" for those. ;)
I don't think I've heard of this one before but it looks great!
The Who's on First Routine is wonderful, this is one of the best classic adventure games out there!
