Immortalize your city!

Children of the Nile Complete, a challenging, complex, and visually appealing historical city-building sim set in the astounding reality of ancient Egypt, is available on GOG.com, for only $9.99.

In the land pried from the dry claws of the desert by the force of the holy river lived a people obedient to the gods and their earthly son, the Pharaoh. Their collective efforts, channeled towards great things by the blessed rulers and the priests of Ra, would allow this infertile and unwelcoming land to flourish. The sweat of their brow, and pain in the backs would be but a petty price to pay for greatness that would make the world revere the ancient Egyptian culture for centuries to come. The names and faces of the workers would be consumed by the sand and time. They had no place in the tombs and pyramids. But that's not important. What matters, is what would be remembered for eternity. The name of the Pharaoh. Your name.

Children of the Nile Complete gives you the power of Pharaoh, an absolute ruler of the Egyptian people. In this complex and compelling city-builder game you'll be presented with a single task: make your city, and by extent your name, immortal. Easier said than done, as there is a plethora of factors you'll have to manage in this multi-layered title. From urban design, management of the scarce resources, through education and assigning tasks to the population, up to diplomacy, and trade. All to make your dynasty last long enough, to achieve a status of an empire. You can play through the game's campaign or participate in stand-alone scenarios, from the basic game as well as extended edition and the Alexandria expansion. But if that's still not enough, there's a scenario editor at your disposal!

May your glory last forever, oh great Pharaoh. Immortalize your name through your acts in Children of the Nile Complete, available on GOG.com for only $9.99!

keeveek: So, still no Emperor: Rise of The Middle Kingdom for some unknown reason.
avatar
firedrake62: I think the reason is technical, I still have the physical CD of Emperor but its not able to be launch successfully after installation in VMware Fusion using WXP
It's the same game on the same engine as Pharaoh and Zeus. Why should it be unplayable?

Also, there are some... alternative sources of games, and they don't require any cd and they, well... work. I'm just waiting for a digital legit alternative :P

I'm also puzzled because Pharaoh installed & launched ok in the same vm machine.
There is no error message at all, just see the hourglass icon run for a while & disappeared.

ambient_orange: Eh this game is no way near as half good as pharaoh:cleopatra..
Why? What TNGpt writes sounds pretty awesome.
Hmm though I've not seen the game play this was on my mental wishlist from a while back. I've always had a thing for Ancient Egypt. Maybe I should become a Pharaoh, I'm pretty sure I was born to rule :)

It ultimately boils down to personal taste. While I enjoyed Children of the Nile, I also prefer Pharaoh. The transition to 3D took away the 2D drawn charm of the old games and they went with a more realistic, minutiae simulation on Children of the Nile that leads to a smaller (and somewhat slower) scope.
Edit: oh and nostalgia also factors in immensely ;)

Already own it on GameStop / Imulse but i'd like to own it on my GOG account .

* wishlisted *
So does that mean we might get Hinterland here as well in the near future? I've been quite curious about that game.

F4LL0UT: (...) And for me Children of the Nile actually qualifies as a classic release.
avatar
TNGpt: Hm I would have to agree with you, regarding it being a classic release rather than a modern indie title.
The original version of the game was developed with a publisher in 2004. When the deal ran out they purchased the rights to the name and self published an Enhanced Edition and the expansion both in 2008. At least half the content in this pack was developed as an indie studio, so the label seems fair to me.

It uses a 3D engine instead of the 2D engine of Pharoah. I've not played it, but they say it's much more simplistic with bland-ish graphics when compared to the old 2D games.
Where is Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom? Surely it should have been released before Children of the Nile, especially since Ceasar, Zeus and Pharaoh have all been released! C'mon GOG, you can do this! I needs to complete my collection!

Still waiting for Emperor...

keeveek replied to firedrake62's issue about Emperor, not talking about Children of the Nile.

I thought that game was surprisingly enjoyable. It's a little game really, not very deep, but enjoyable :)
