Happily never after.
American McGee's Grimm, colorful and zany action-adventure title that comes in 23 self-contained episodes, half an hour each, and lets you "fix" all the popular fairy tales suffering from severe sweetness overdose, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.99 for the first week.

Once upon a time, far far away, across seven seas and seven mountains something magical happened. It was quite miraculous, but at the same time scary. Bad things happened to some people in the process, and everyone involved got what they deserved, whether it was their lost heritage, revenge, punishment, or an important lesson about how life works. The folk passed the story on by word of mouth and by the time it got here, it was full of unicorns, fairy dust, and cotton candy. Which made it pointless. Now, we can't have that, can we?

American McGee's Grimm is a unique episodic action adventure experience that lets you visit 23 popular fairytales and put them back in their dark, twisted, and meaningful shape, how they always should have been. Each of the episodes has its very own setting, a stand-alone story, mad aesthetics, and that unmistakable American McGee feel to it. You can dive into one fairy tale after another or take them on one at a time for a daily 30-minute trip to absurd, colorful, and scary land of Grimm.

Don't hate fairytales for what they've become. Fix them instead, one at the time, in American McGee's Grimm, for only $7.99 on GOG.com. The 20% off release discount offer lasts until Tuesday, November 26, at 10:59AM GMT.

Boilpoint: Yeah, for some reason my mind at first filled in Alice after American McGee's :(

Not to say this is a bad release, I just thought for a second it was something very big
I think we all did that!
Never heard of this game before. It looks wonderfully bizarre.

Exactly! ~perfect word~
AFAIK It's up to EA to allow American McGee's Alice to appear here. I can't seem to find it even on the Origin store.

I think I'll tweet Jeff Skalski a message of support for this and C&C. (probably won't make much difference, but I'll feel better if I do :P)

BTW, I hope this isn't considered the classic release of the week. 5 years is old enough by GOG's standards, but I'm hoping we can get older. (Of course, I could forgo any classics this week if we start getting hints of something BIG happening before the year's end! ;)
At least this is a start...

Just got Clive Barker's Undying recently. The EA logo from the early games in 2000 reminded me about Alice more than anything. Maybe if EA was swamped with emails and tweets the ball could start rolling on getting both Alice games here...

They do seem to be in a giving mood considering Wasteland and the recent Bullfrog expansions being released here.

What I seem to remember hearing is that you could get it as a bonus (or package deal or something) if you buy Madness Returns through Origin.

That's what I heard too, but I didn't see anything about that on the Origin page. Maybe it was a limited-time deal?
WHOA WHOA OKAY WHAT I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS

It was originally only available for people who preordered Madness Returns through Origin.

But both Alice games have been bundled together since then - mostly through Amazon. You can't buy Alice 1 on its own though, only in the two pack.

Fever_Discordia: What about American McGee's Bad Day LA?
http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/american-mcgee-presents-bad-day-la
Which looks schlocky but fun - like the Postal series...
Naaaah, this game is really really bad. It's not as fun as it look. Very short, very buggy, and the gameplay is atrocious. I'd rather they add Scrapland. That game is decent. Starts to get boring over 20+ hours since you have to do the very same missions OVER AND OVER, but it has its charms. Also, GoG should release it since this game is Starforce'd, meaning unplayable without hacks.

And...seriously? Grimm? Not Alice? Mcgee must really hate us.

Eh, guess there's a Xmas special planned!

Very excited about this release, especially considering that the only versions most people have dealt with since GameTap removed them are missing the last 2 episodes! I know most find the gameplay pretty simple (and it is), but I think the visual and sound effects when the scenery & props change to be very satisfying. Running around to completely cover a level 100% (or as close as you can get) is addicting, and seeing new alternate versions of props is always a kick. I think my only issue with the game was the constant repetition of the voice when butt-stomping. "ROMP AND STOMP" gets stuck in your head for days after playing.

Haven't tried this GoG version yet, but can anyone verify if it runs decently on Linux via Wine? The 'other' versions out there work okay (just a few small performance issues at times), so I'm assuming the GoG ones raw pretty much flawlessly (as is usually the case). Will definitely be buying this once I have the funds either way!
added it to my birthday wishlist
Yay. Not that bad a game if you're in for the insane writing and presentation. The gameplay is IIRC almost non-existent, though. A very casual experience, IIRC.
So if the gameplay isn't all that great, how's the humor? Is it hilarious and original, did the designers do surprising and creative things with the fairy tales, or is that part kind of average, too?

Perhaps ask Foxhack since he was all excited about it :)

I haven't had the time to play the game to give an honest opinion, sorry :/

Are you allowed to give opinions on whether games GoG sell are any good?!
