Texas is a state--of mind!

The Real Texas, a quirky action-RPG filled with witty dialogs, memorable NPCs, and tons of original quests, that will have you go "yee-haw!" in the magical Republic of Texas, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $5.99 for the next 24 hours!

Strange is the word. The beginning of your adventure is strange. You are a Texan rancher enjoying your holiday in England, when suddenly a blue vortex appears and draws you back to Texas. This isn't the Texas you know, though. It's an odd twisted parody with just a little hint of magic. Strange people living there insist that you perform many strange tasks for them, and--strangely--you agree. On your way you'll meet many strange creatures, like fantastic animals and the undead. To make things even more strange, the town that you ended up in was built upon a vast underground dungeon. And the town's name? It's Strange, of course. Strange, Texas.

The Real Texas combines classic top-down action-RPG mechanics, strategic real-time combat, complex dialog system, and original surreal setting, to create a role-playing experience like no other. While there's much humor in the game and the zany world keeps you from taking it dead serious, there are some characters and occurrences that will surely make you stop and contemplate the human condition. All that while exploring the vast town of Strange, Texas and uncovering its many dark mysteries. The game's charming music is available as a bonus MP3 soundtrack with every GOG.com copy of the game.

Hold on to your hat, partner, as you plummet through space and time into The Real Texas, for only $5.99 on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Thursday, March 7, at 10:59AM GMT.
What is with all the bitching and moaning about the graphics!?!? Have any of you ever actually been to Texas? THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE DOWN THERE! :D DUH!

Anyone who likes a good adventure game with rpg elements might like this. The graphics aren't Skyrim but so what?
it's a decent game. Not as good as Anodyne (that for some reason got rejected, while it's better then at least half the indie crap they do put on here), but fun in a very weird way. If you are doubting this might be the perfect time to buy it.

With the emphasis on "might" rather than "anyone". ;) I'm a big adventure and RPG fan and I didn't like it that much. And saying that the graphics aren't Skyrim is an understatement. I dig quite a few indie games with partly even more simplistic graphics if it fits their style. But in this case I have to say it feels more like born out of necessity, and its not just the visuals you can see on the screenshots, there are also pathfinding and collision issues. It just doesn't feel polished.

Agreed (even though I wouldn't call any of the other games "crap", but Anodyne is a great indie game that I enjoyed a lot more than The Real Texas, and I'm saying that despite my rage-inducing issues with its jumping mechanics).

EDIT: But to be fair, part of my illwill against The Real Texas probably stems from the regular price it's sold at; had it been $5.99 all the time, I'd have been much more lenient towards it. IMO this is not on par with the quality of equally priced games like Legend of Grimrock or the Blackwell Bundle.

Edit: Nevermind. didn't realize the game's full price was $14.99. [/edit]

But yeah, I agree with you and I have no interest on playing this game, mostly because several of its jokes would fly above my head as they would to almost every non-american.

I just found this out, and it only adds to my disgust! There is a level that takes place in the Alamo, and in it the Alamo has a basement! What are these people retarded!? There's no basement at the Alamo!

Question: how do you know Anodyne was rejected?
I got over Driftmoons top down approach, but cant get over how 'unique' well OK ugly the graphics are... and im not usually a graphics whore :)....
I must say that the regular price of The Real Texas has always put me off before, there is just something about an indy game* that is price over $10 that bugs me. So now that it is at $5.99 it is a far more reasonable price in my eyes to give this a go and hope for the "gem" GOG feel this to be.

So time to pay up and give this little indy a real go I feel.

Edit: * or any game over 3 years old.
