A platformer with the darkest of souls.

Spelunky, a fun but very unforgiving platformer with procedural level creation, dynamic and diverse gameplay, and charming 2D graphics, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.49 for the next 24 hours!

What makes an adventurer? Is it the stylish, but worn outfit with the dusty old hat? No, we've seen adventurers dressed in all kinds of rags. Is it his faithful weapon of choice, like the whip? Again, no. Some adventurers make do with an old umbrella and you don't see them complaining. Is it the imposingly funny sidekick, providing comedic relief to each situation, whether the hero likes it or not? No, many adventurers are lone wolfs. So, what do they have in common? The answer is: complete and utter disregard for danger, and very little imagination. This is a story of such an adventurer. A story, that would never take place if its hero knew any better.

In Spelunky, you'll be exploring ancient temples, caves, and ruins so packed with deadly monsters and traps, that virtually every step you take without dying is a cause to feel good about your gaming skills. The underground is full of forgotten treasures, gleaming gold nuggets, and shiny gems. Get the loot, escape the traps, beat the beasts, and rescue the damsel in distress (or a boy, if you're playing a female character). If you want to feel like a daring archaeologist/adventurer and you're not afraid of any danger, this game will feel like a dream come true.

Brave the breakneck underworld and try--just try!--to escape with all the precious treasures you can carry in Spelunky, for only $7.49 on GOG.com. Don't wait, because the 50% off discount offer lasts only until Thursday, October 24, at 9:59AM GMT.
I still can't stomach their lies about the Humble release.

Not going to give them my money...
Good wallet saved again thanks to owning it already ;-)

Which lies?
this games looks so wonderful but the gameplay is a no-go for me, I like my platformers slow and relaxed...

Huh??

Game is AMAZING. I'd pay full retail $60 for this (even though i'm horrible at the game tbh).

The developer ABSOLUTELY deserves your money, and $7.50 is pure theft for what you're getting here, which is an incredibly fun, infinitely replayable experience...and DRM free.

Give it a go...It's a brilliant little game. It's got the 'simulation' design philosophy of a Looking Glass Studios game like Thief, or a classic roguelike such as Nethack....but its wrapped up in a cartoony, darkly comedic, Super Nintendo-esque platformer.

You're missing out ;)

I played the free version and got supremely bored in three rooms. Any reason I should try the ee?

I gave it a go :) I've played the original free version for about an hour, but had to give up...
I paid full price and would do it again for this fantastic gem. If you are Polish, here's my review.

Not a bad game. Definitely a Rick Dangerous feel to it. I don't really care for timed based games, if you take too long the spectre/ghost appears to hurry you along, though the time limit does increase as the mazes get bigger and more deadly. The gameplay is simple and has a trial and error feel to it, meaning you'll die often until you get a feel to how better avoid the traps. Amusing for awhile, but ultimately I think it will be forgotten. Just my thoughts.

Sounds a bit like 99 levels to hell I've played a little of.

I assume he means the promise of a Humble Store release that never materialised. Not sure what the problem is unless he was hoping for a Steam key AND DRM-free release.
Such a lovely promo.
I've been playing the demo version on and off since I first heard about this game. It's very challenging...but I like it! I've never really liked platformers, but the combination of procedural level generation and the way the game slowly teaches you the iron laws of its strange world really has me on the hook. Bought!
