You've got 1 new friendship invitation.

Redshirt, a deep-space station sim game that's a spot-on satire on social media "relationships", as well as a smart Star Trek parody that should resonate nicely with the series' fans, is available 40% off today on GOG.com. That's only $11.99 for the next 24 hours.

Social Networks: The Final Frontier of human privacy and dignity. This is Redshirt, a comedic deep space life sim focusing on online social life of the crew of a space station. Their mission in life: to post the pictures of their odd looking, tentacle waving lunch on their Spacebook profiles, to stalk their crewmates private holograms, to boldly collect more "friends" than anyone collected before. Fair warning: in this game, your character is low-ranked deck hand wearing a red uniform. On a deep space mission. In space. Avoid being put on away teams at all cost! This game is an absolutely bonkers look at life in the future, mixes together strategy, interpersonal conflict, Sims-like professional development--and a fair measure of Machiavellian inter-station politics--into a solid bundle of fun that's sure to amuse anyone who's a critic of modern society's habit of sharing, liking, posting, pinning, plussing, and friending so much that they miss the alien about to eat their face.

Every now and then we see that a game we fell in love with doesn't quite get the attention we imagined it would from gamers and media alike. A game, that deserves to be featured again. A game that deserves your attention. A game that will bring you lots and lots of fun. A game like Redshirt, now for only $11.99 on GOG.com. The 40% off discount offer will last until Thursday, December 12, at 10:59 GMT.
It also had the Insomnia sale overshadowing this release.

$20 pricing plus the Insomnia sale + neg comments first up. Game never had a chance on release

nijuu: Doesnt help when the first few reviews consisted of comments like "Over priced"....from those who didnt even own it...
I agree it's not good to write a review of a game that you don't own, but I think it should be apparent to most people which reviews were written by people who don't own the game. Moreover, almost all of the reviews I've seen of the game who do actually own the game - including those on Steam - have said that the game is highly overpriced for what it is. The few exceptions on GOG seem to be praising the game beyond all limits in some bizarre attempt to even the balance.

And I also agree that judging a game by its filesize is also a bad idea, but in this particular case the filesize was unusually a good reflection of the repetitive and highly short nature of the game.

Pheace: Not for the publishers, unless it didn't sell well :)

Austrobogulator: Well, that quote seems to imply that it didn't really sell well...
Yet that quote doesn't quite sound like from a publisher to me.

Can somebody sell this game to me? Is there any reason to play this game when you dislike online social networks? I mean, I don't have facebook, so if it's about in-jokes of that, I won't get any enjoyment out of it.

Edit: Maybe I should also add that I know nothing about Star Trek, so jokes/references from that are useless to me too.

Pfft, I'm still playing Triple Town, so I can deal with short and repetitive :P

The difference being that Triple Town is free. Well, sort of anyway.

Yeah but thats a different kind of game... albeit a mobile game cum pc game ;)
I like the game's premise, but even with the discount, it's not even remotely in a price range where I'd consider buying it.
All I know is I'm someone's target demographic.

So does that qualify me for some cheap cologne or a salami of the month club?
Even if I was into social media and Star Trek, I doubt I'd buy this one at this price point. With a permanent price point of $10 I might get it during a sale. However, as I am not into neither social media nor Star Trek (in any big way anyway), this game doesn't really interest me at any price.

This, exactly. I'll wait for a half-price sale.
The game just came out last month, so people need to wait a bit for it to get reduced in price. It's not like a classic which gets immediately put on GOG at an attractive price level. Give it 3 months and it should be down to 9.99 and by next fall sale, should be down at 5.99 regular pricing. I don't mind indie companies getting first adopters to pay up for newly released games. I support their efforts.
