Hack and slash like there's no tomorrow!

Hammerwatch, a fast-paced fantasy hack-and-slash with exciting multi-player modes and lots of pixelated nostalgia, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 24 hours!

Sword in hand, eyes blinking to adjust to the dark, you take your first cautious steps into the dungeon. You can never tell what secrets and dangers the underground holds just by looking at the entrance. An unassuming hole in the ground, a trapdoor in some moldy basement, a cave overgrown with weeds--it almost never holds a promise of anything interesting. A true adventurer will know, however. They will feel the gentlest breeze, they will smell a hint of foul monster stench, they'll be magically drawn to the treasures and artifacts hidden below, and they will boldly venture forth. Before then know it, they'll be hacking, slashing, and looting as if the fate of the entire world was at stake. And they'll have fun. Even more fun if you gather a party before venturing forth. Such is the way of dungeon crawling, such it has been, and such it will ever be.

Hammerwatch is a modern indie game with the heart of a classic. The main idea--conquering dungeons and other formidable locations--is almost as old as computer gaming itself. The execution, however, makes it a perfect pick for modern-day thrill-seeking gamers. With fast-paced, dynamic gameplay full of nice ideas, optional local and online multi-player, and even a scenario editor that allows for the creation of your very own adventures from scratch (including new graphics!), this little pixelated gem can bring you hours and hours of nostalgic hack-and-slash fun. Beware, though: dungeoning is a highly addictive hobby!

Unleash the pixelated fantasy mayhem with all the right RPG flavors with Hammerwatch, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The 50% discount offer lasts until Thursday, November 21, at 10:59AM GMT.
Now this is an interesting game. Trying it out and I think I'm addicted.

It's smooth, fast paced without being too fast, you don't feel like you're ever really going slow, has the retro/old school feel being pixels however at the same time it doesn't feel like it's clunky. I wish there was an inventory system to improve yourself item-wise but it seems you can get upgrades instead by spending raw coins to merchants.

Big map, plenty to explore, far enough zoomed out that you aren't wondering what's about to ambush you. Plenty of time to plan everything.

Mmm this could be so fun with another 2-3 players, too bad my brother is in another state or I'd invite him to play this for hours like we used to do with Diablo 1 and WarCraft 2.

God that brings back memories, most of them good too :)
How does online multiplayer work? Are there available players to gang up with?
Well I'd buy this game on GOG at this good sale price but I'm a Linux user and you can buy this game CROSS PLATFORM (Windows, Mac AND Linux) straight from the developer, while on GOG it's only Windows and Mac, and GOG doesn't do Linux versions.

If you're a Linux user, I would advise not to bother, even though it's at such a good price right now. Otherwise I'd go for it.

Curiously, if you're a Linux user... why go to a forum that doesn't support Linux for gaming?

I'm right there with you. I picked this up at another seller, with Win/Mac/Linux, and for even a little less than here. I would have gotten it here, even though it was a little bit more, if Linux was included.

Some of us use Windows and Linux. I only use Windows on my main PC at home. My netbook, laptop, and several other computers are Linux.

I have a computer that runs both Windows and Linux on dual boot. Right now it's out of service so I'm using a different machine with Linux only, but that's beside the point. I'd be fine using my Windows partition to play the game, but if it's available for Linux too, I think it would be a better value getting it straight from the developer, even if it costs a little more than this sale price. I like supporting GOG and everything, but I'm just saying that it *might* be a better value getting it from the developer.

To undeadcow: A lot of GOG users use Linux, so I had given an open piece of advice to anyone interested in this game. I was not exactly whining or being negative, if that's what you're implying. I was pointing out that a native Linux version is available to those who buy the game from the developer, for those who didn't know already. Again, what you said may make a little sense, but lots of people on GOG use Linux anyway. (Know about that GOGmix "Games that work in Linux"?)
Yeah I need to get around to playing this one.
low rated
I just realised that for $4.80 you can get Hammerwatch on Humble Store. This includes the DRM free version, Steam Key, and Windows/Mac/Linux. But the sale closes in 10 min :)

Lets face it, the HB store needs all the view it can. They only sell indie games with any real competition, otherwise they are just a Steam deals page.

As for the game. It looks really nice and the gameplay looks fun, so come Christmas if it is back at 50% I might just buy it. As for now it will just remain in my wishlist I have other games to play more urgently.

Mate. you guys are on a GOG forum and this is a gog thread selling the game on GOG. Its not a HB store advertising opportunity.GOG is not HB. HB is not GOG. Does HB advertise GOG? NO. Sheesh. I cant believe some of you guys.
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/gaming_deals_thread/page2134 ----> that is the thread made for advertising OTHER gaming deals

If gog can compete, they have nothing to worry about. If they can not, they better should know about it and step up their game. If GoG is unable to compete on its own prime selling point, DRM free, then it does not help putting the head in the sand.

+1 to that. I was aware of the Humble Store sale (just elapsed) and it made me wonder if GOG would offer a deal too because I would prefer to get Hammerwatch on GOG; so now it'll be mine for 50% off.

It was annoying for a bit checking in to see comments on Hammerwatch or online matching only to find sparsely related tangents about Humble Store, etc.

Thanks, I'll admit to being oblivious about Linux but it's so frequently commented on I thought I'd ask.

There's no mention of the MP3 soundtrack there, though. Not sure if they offered it or not.

Well... that's not entirely true. They actually do, probably even without noticing.

In this Night Dive Studios Trailer for System Shock 2 you can clearly see the GOG.com watermark in the title screen at the end of the video, and that's the trailer they use for the game :-)

Anyway, sale closed now.
