Set phasers to FUN!

FTL: Faster Than Light, an amazing blend of hard science fiction, strategy, and drama that sends you on a voyage through a procedurally generated galaxy filled with awe and danger, is available 66% off today, on GOG.com. That's only $3.39 for the next 24 hours!

Now, FTL here is a tough game. Some would say that at times it's unfair. To that any spacecraft captain would promptly reply: "life isn't fair, crewman! Suck it up. Now zip-up that red uniform of yours and go check the contamination levels in the second airlock". They would be quite right. Life in the depths of space has no place for such concepts of fairness. You need to be prepared for solar winds blowing in your face. You need to expect a sudden abordage by alien pirates. You need to have a backup backup backup reactor core. That's just everyday's reality for a starship commander. Although, hard as it may seem, you get to reroute power to the shields and launch photon torpedoes at stuff, so in the end it's way more satisfying than all other careers you could have.

FTL: Faster Than Light is a meticulous simulation of a spaceship commander's duties. The fate of the ship and its crew lies in your hands, so your performance has to be flawless. You have to track many of the craft's systems at once, issue orders to your men, and plan at least five steps ahead. The galaxy you'll be traversing is procedurally generated and full of danger, so the game provides infinite replayability and challenge. If you are a sci-fi fan and you enjoy difficult games, FTL: Faster Than Light will mesmerise you with its setting and unforgiving mechanics.

Boldly go, where several men have gone before and got their butts kicked by aliens! Grab FTL: Faster Than Light, for only $3.39 on GOG.com. The 66% off discount offer lasts until Thursday, November 28, at 10:59AM GMT.
I heard good things about this game early on, publicized it to others, and pretty much everyone liked it a lot.

Except me. I've only played a small number of games and only the early parts, but it just wasn't that fun for me and the difficulty was annoying. It would be about 2/5 for fun. But most seem to like it a lot.

It's mainly the whole gameplay that just wasn't that much fun. If I didn't see all the happy players, I would have not expected this to catch on much.

Check out some guides or threads in the subforum here. The game is extremely easy when you know what you are doing. Bit too easy after a while. But till then it is great fun.

Wishbone: Anybody who doesn't have this, get it now. Just keep in mind that dying (a lot) is an integral part of this game.
Yeah. If you don't mind dying over and over and over again, than this game is for you.

For me it was also great fun. I never forget the first encounter wtih the boss. Or the first time I did kill the boss.

Look at the screenshots. If you can life (and die) with that. Than buy it.
Nice! I already have this game though, from Humble Bundle. And it has a Linux version....

Aye. And it is our duty to shove it down their throats, whether they want it or not !

Seriously? That is freakin' awesome! Sounds like it will be fun. I can't believe they actually got Chris Avellone for this.
I'm totally out of the loop with gaming news.
Get it :3

Grargar: Advanced edition.
Cool! Thanks for letting me know.

It's a nice promo, but I already have the game AND a copy to ready to give away, and that should be enough.

Same here.

It’s a fun game and I never thought that I’d enjoy it. But I do.

It’s not the kind of game that I come back to night after night. It’s far too simple and casual for that. But that’s also the reason why dying in this game doesn’t feel so bad and why I can easily fire this up and play a round or two whenever I feel like it.

I could imagine this game to be much more fun with more complexity; a space exploration game with proper crew management and more varied events with far more depth than battling drones and pirate ships. That would be a blast. But still, I already enjoy FTL the way it is right now.
Great game well worth buying.

Put your hopes here
even if you get tired of it, this is a game you can always come back to if you put it away for a while. i was never able to beat it but it's still darn good fun.

btw, does anyone get framerate issues on windows 8? it runs fine on my vista laptop but this game is unplayable on my w8 desktop. the framerate is just very low. i have the same issue with unepic.

There just aren't enough hours in the day. FTL is sitting on my wishlist - and I *will* take advantage of this promo to get it - but my game backlog looks more and more like an unclimbable mountain (not to mention all my other backlogs such as books, movies, etc).

Hah, then it'll crawl back out and give them a bloody nose, and they'll learn to love it.
To those who still don't own this game, get it now. Seriously. It's very, very addictive. I've spent at least 5-10 hours a week playing it since I bought it a few months ago. It's the perfect game to challenge yourself and live an adventure in space.
