King Arthur's round table had 12 knights, there are normally twelve pairs of ribs in the human body, twelve people have walked on the moon, and GOG.com has gifted twelve million dollars worth of games for absolutely zilch.

If you were asked what’s so special about your favorite digital distributor with a difference, you would probably mention DRM-free quality games, Fair Pricing, and Customer Love, but also the freebies. And not only the soundtracks, wallpapers, avatars, original game manuals “and et cetera” but also the six games we’re giving away to our users for signing up: , Beneath a Steel Sky, Tyrian 2000, Ultima IV, Lure of the Temptress, and . In addition to that, the world-famous Gee, Oh, and Gee, followed by straightforward dot-com has had great impressive give-aways of great games like Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games, Broken Sword: Director’s Cut, or Empire Earth.

From the day of our launch we’ve given away approximately 888 trillion 228 billion 596 million 940 thousand and 800 bytes of gaming on the GOG.com house, which, as you can easily calculate, is equal to more than 12 million dollars’ worth of games that we’ve handed out simply for love of our gamers.

To properly celebrate, we needed something special! We ran out of walruses to give our users and our GOG.com time-travel feature is still in beta, so we went for the the third best thing: another free game, namely the fantastic free-roaming adventure platformer Treasure Adventure Game is a huge, open-world, platform adventure game and you can download it right now.

If you’ve been following us on Twitter, Facebook, or Google +, you’ve probably heard that we’re getting ready to do some big and exciting things soon--we can’t tell you precisely what that is just yet, but we will be releasing a series of videos, starting on Friday, and then we’ll have a big announcement on Tuesday. So stay tuned and enjoy your free game!

serpantino: As for common sense, they did have Spellforce 2 & it's expansions for a while, those are pretty new games, certainly not old games, and the kind of thing I expected....
avatar
timppu: "Did"? What happened to them? I still see them listed on GOG catalog (Spellforce 2, and the only expansion (not expansions) that was ever released for it.
Nothing but I wasn't sure if they were still available as they broke off from Jowood and GOG had a final chance sale on them but I guess the developers opted to keep them on GOG which is good but I'd personally hold out for a good gamersgate sale if you're interested in them.

SirPrimalform: Awesome! I already had this (because it's already free) but I welcome the addition of this to everyone's pages, it'll get more people to play it.
I agree, I already downloaded the game a few weeks ago (but haven't checked it out yet) and it's surprising to see it here, but it's a good thing for the developer to have his game spotlighted like this, and if the game's as good as it looks, he deserves all the attention for releasing it as freeware.

And some people might not have heard of it yet, and it might also convince any remaining non-believers of the potential of freeware games (I don't expect a lot of them among the GOG crowd, but I think there are still gamers who think everything offered as freeware can't really be good).

Titanium: Hey, I'm all for freebies, but can't they come alongside new releases or on off days? The pace of game acquisition is already painfully slow,... unless of course you plan on breaking out the heavy guns.
Yeah, it would be nice if GOG could keep up with our playing speed; if it goes on like this we're soon running out of games to play, I already see people complaining about their non-existent backlogs and that they have no idea what to do with all their money anymore.
;)

(Just joking! )

jamyskis: When did GOG let people believe that they'd be releasing proper retail games? On the basis of a questionnaire that asked "Would you like to see newer games on GOG?".
I thought they had denied that they're planning to release indie games, e.g. in this interview (that was the time after the questionnaire, I think), but reading it more closely now, it seems that I completely misunderstood them.

And I just found this article from the same period reporting quite the contrary - did we miss that before?

Quoting:
another surprise came when they exposed their desire to open their doors to indie games to come aboard. The hope is to increase their catalogue of games up to 400 by the end of 2012, and they seem focused on gathering promising indie games in to do that. CD Projekt say that indies and themselves share the same spirit:

“We want to work closely with ambitious developers and independent publishers who feel a kinship with that ‘good old spirit’ that GOG.com embodies.”
Personally I'm fine with them selling indies, as long as they concentrate on the right ones (e.g. developers who are reluctant to put their games on Indievania or other small sites but would like to distribute DRM-free versions of them nevertheless). This new turn is getting my hopes up again, that "Legend of Grimrock" could appear on GOG one day, it seems like the perfect fit. Actually, I'm quite confident about that possibility now, since Almost Human Games already stated that they signed several NDA's and that Steam will not be the only option for purchasing the game. :)

Absolutely fantastic; many thanks GOG. I cannot wait to see what plans you have secreted behind your mystic veil!

To a bright future, GOG; may you go from strength to strength.

I got them from GOG from the previous Xmas promo I think, so I guess I am covered. I was just wondering if they really disappeared for new customers like e.g. Hostile Waters did, but I guess not. Checked it by logging out from GOG and checking if I can still find the games.
First of all thank you for the free title it was a very pleasant surprise and it has made my day. I'm might have to go and perform some random act of kindness for some stranger today. Secondly, hopefully in your math you remembered giving us Tex Murphy Mean Streets as well. I'll NEVER love another like I love GOG!
Thanks for all the free games, GOG. :)

Now to wait for Tuesday...
Thanks for the free game GOG

Does this mark the start of GOG releasing "Newer" games now? Is this the title that will start this, this year?
Oh boy oh boy what does this mean? :D
Thank you very much for the free games and keep up the good work GOG. Also, if it isn't asking too much, please add the Europa Universalis series to your game catalogue. Thanks.

Here's hoping. I dream of a future with GOG releasing truly platform-agnostic (read: DRM-free) versions of games new and old, not just as we would normally expect, but like if timppu's Mass Effect 3 Gold Edition were the Digital Collector's Edition without needing the Origin platform (at most a sign-in for the multiplayer), or Skyrim without Steamworks, or the Batman Arkham games with nothing more of Games for Windows - Live than a sign-in if you want to track achievements or for leaderboards on the challenge maps.

I don't think "platform-agnostic" means what you think it means. Next time, just stick to "DRM-free".
