King Arthur's round table had 12 knights, there are normally twelve pairs of ribs in the human body, twelve people have walked on the moon, and GOG.com has gifted twelve million dollars worth of games for absolutely zilch.

If you were asked what’s so special about your favorite digital distributor with a difference, you would probably mention DRM-free quality games, Fair Pricing, and Customer Love, but also the freebies. And not only the soundtracks, wallpapers, avatars, original game manuals “and et cetera” but also the six games we’re giving away to our users for signing up: , [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/beneath_a_steel_sky]Beneath a Steel Sky, Tyrian 2000, Ultima IV, Lure of the Temptress, and . In addition to that, the world-famous Gee, Oh, and Gee, followed by straightforward dot-com has had great impressive give-aways of great games like [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/jagged_alliance_deadly_games]Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games, Broken Sword: Director’s Cut, or Empire Earth.

From the day of our launch we’ve given away approximately 888 trillion 228 billion 596 million 940 thousand and 800 bytes of gaming on the GOG.com house, which, as you can easily calculate, is equal to more than 12 million dollars’ worth of games that we’ve handed out simply for love of our gamers.

To properly celebrate, we needed something special! We ran out of walruses to give our users and our GOG.com time-travel feature is still in beta, so we went for the the third best thing: another free game, namely the fantastic free-roaming adventure platformer Treasure Adventure Game is a huge, open-world, platform adventure game and you can download it right now.

So stay tuned and enjoy your free game!

serpantino: I agree that QUALITY indie games do need a good portal outside of steam. It's just GOG has once again let people believe they'd be releasing proper retail games DRM free not indie games. Yeah some are lumbered with DRM but I don't think many on gamersgate are and a lot of the ones I own on steam I can run from their folders without running steam at all.
I'd love it more if it was a separate website.
When did GOG let people believe that they'd be releasing proper retail games? On the basis of a questionnaire that asked "Would you like to see newer games on GOG?".

I think common sense can dictate that the main triple-A sector is DRM-obsessed at the moment and wouldn't dream for the most part of having their precious games released into the wild without Steamworks, Uplay, Securom, Tagès or whatever. It wasn't unreasonable to assume therefore that if GOG wanted to keep with their DRM-free approach while releasing newer games, it was going to be indie titles.

I've just had a quick look at the game and from my initial impression, free doesn't mean bad. Looks to be quite a decent title.

Congratulations for the success and hello indie folks ;-)

Just an idea, but how to establish beside the existing release days for oldies one special day (maybe monday) for indies? Doing this every day is something happening on gog and there is no worry about less oldie releases.

wormholewizards: This is not good freebie?
Yeah it is but it was free anyhow along with most of the other free games. Didn't think much of Jagged Alliance: DA. Bought Broken Sword already but that was definitely the best of the freebie bunch.

This is what everyone was going on about when they made the announcement and GOG being GOG kept silent about it. In cases like that they really should say something because it's not the first time they've disappointed people through being silent when everyone gets the wrong idea. Granted that's the fault of the individuals but GOG could alleviate their suffering a bit. I should point out that, that criticism is based on the fact GOG actually does listen to & interact with it's community.

As for common sense, they did have Spellforce 2 & it's expansions for a while, those are pretty new games, certainly not old games, and the kind of thing I expected.... games a couple of years old that could do with making a bit of extra dough & who don't have a big enough retail footprint to warrant DRM worries anymore.

I don't really understand... Did I read correct? Are there actually some people complaining because GOG is giving a free game instead of releasing a paying game?

Well, to those people, let me just say one thing: if, like me, your budget isn't affording you to buy a new game, you would rejoice GOG gives you a free game, instead of endless comments in the style of "excellent release!! But I'm broke right now... okay, wishlisted... unless some kind soul wants to gift it to me!"

You see what I mean.

^_^
Thanks Gog! You guys are the best and I wish you continued success.
new indie titles, could it mean Bohemia Interactive is one of them? The new ArmA look promising.

This. I really can't stand the begging.

The only complaint I can halfway empathise with right now is the concern that this might slow down the flow of older rereleases. Whether this is the case remains to be seen.

People complaining about not having a free retail game is just low. Talk about self-entitled twits...

or went straight to GOG Gifting thread...

Don't worry, this is not the first time and will not be the last. I thought GOG already forgiven after the release of Anachronox. But that's not the case.

Am I the first one to notice this?? (bolding mine)

I'm super-psyched to find out what's going on, and tomorrow will begin anew the countdown to the big announcement.

And thanks for the (rather intriguing) free game, GOG!

you got it wrong, i think. today's release is a freeware indie title. it's an indie game that's just come out. and it's freeware.

it's a cute game, to be sure, and i'll give it a try since i adore Terraria. but you can get the game elsewhere under the same conditions (free and DRM-free). i'd have prefered a proper new GoG release. they were hinting at Assassin's Creed recently...

no dude, but an announcement for an announcement tends not to excite most folks anymore... wake me up on Tuesday, will you?

True, but as some people like to have all their games on Steam, I prefer all my downloads here on GOG. Plus, I hadn't ever heard about the game before today. Oh yeah, you might say i could have found it on the web, but how am I supposed to reduce my backlog of games if I spend time on internet ?? ;)

By the way, I'll take that freeware game over Assassin's Creed any day. I played Assassin's Creed (at least the first), because it came free with my graphics card and boy was i happy to have it for free! Visually stunning and... that's pretty all... But that's just my opinion.
