DarrkPhoenix: The legal doctrine that would probably be most applicable is that of unclean hands.

Thats a fast way to get sick! Or fired from a hospitality job

Wishbone: With a 10 year old game, the rights of which may have changed hands a number of times since it was made, those files may no longer exist. In some cases, they may never have existed. And if the source code has disappeared along the way as well, then modifying the released game files somehow is the only way to do it. Whether that is done by the publisher or by GOG with the publisher's blessing, I don't know, and truth be told, don't really care either.

JudasIscariot: Frankly speaking, I would rather download the game from GOG all the while knowing that I won't have to worry about finding a torrent for the game, virus-scanning it, unraring it, and all the other hassles that are involved with torrents. Another positive is the better download speeds and the slight glimmer of hope that my (and other peoples') purchase sends a message to publishers to let them know that we would like more, instead of less, complex games.

Uhm, you DO know you're preaching to the preacher here, right? I wasn't criticizing GOG nor defending the RPGCodex loons ;-)
So where are RPGCodex on the great scale of internet fuckwittery? Above 4chan I assume because it seems that everythig else in creation is, are they above NMA as well?

Nah, the Codex is below 4chan because at least 4chan are dicks when they're right and they prove that they are right. The morons here are NEVER right and they have an aversion to buying old games.

Preaching to the choir.
The Codex is okay, except for a slightly higher than average COMPLETE DRIBBLING NUTJOB ratio. Like Skyway. Also watch out for Lithuanian hitmen.

I wasn't going for an existing idiom, actually, just making a comparison, but thanks anyway.

I would say RPGCodex are above IMDB. Which is about as insulting as you can get.
I'm not quite sure about the direction this thread has taken. I'm not sure why people keep extending it by taking potshots at another internet site, where a number of posters approve of piracy but a number don't, for the heinous crime of pointing out that the GOG version seems to use a warez crack. The general attitude is 'we don't care', so let's just leave it there.
RPGCodex: Like Fallout (good!) but dislike Vogel (bad!). There are some good posters, some inane posters and some terrible posters. Welcome to the Internet!
lol if they hate GOG so much over there what is with the top right corner?

The only way they are going to earn money from that, is if enough people click through from that banner, then make a new account and purchase games. Accounts that were created over a certain time ago no longer count towards any affiliate payment. And then, affiliates are only paid after a certain threshold has been reached.
Given their hate of GOG, I doubt they'll be making much if anything.
I still don't care btw.
You know, a GOG employee could give us an educated response. I wonder if any of those are around.....

My theory on this:
GOG employee replies, people pick apart their statement. Issue doesn't get resolved.
GOG employee doesn't reply, people make theories about their silence. Issue doesn't get resolved.
Damned if you, damned if you don't in a way.
