It is generally considered unwise to post unaltered codes that may be snatched up by just about anyone e.g. people just browsing through the forums to gather codes or some such... There's also talk of bots, but I couldn't say how serious a problem this actually is. In any case - PM to confirm your status as a living being... Others have said it better, but that's the gist of it.

WildHobgoblin said it nicely but it's also about building friendships too ;-) This is a very friendly place and by encouraging everyone to chat with each other, it keeps the forum a nice place to visit, hang out, to gift and be gifted and generally talk about everything under the sun - including games ;-)

Thank you both for your thorough explanations :) I myself like it more when a person contacts you if he wants the game you're gifting, or for trading purposes. Sometimes you can even chat with the person for a little while, get to know him or his thoughts on some topic :)
