The Pit goes on even deeper now!

Sword of the Stars: The Pit: MindGames DLC, an expansion pack adding two new playable characters, new insane-er gameplay mode, new locations, and new gameplay features to the challenging Sci-Fi roguelike, is available for only $4.99 on GOG.com.

[url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/the_pit_mindgames_dlc]Sword of the Stars: The Pit: MindGames is a shiny example of DLC that truly deserves to be called an expansion! MindGames adds so much new content and features to Sword of the Stars: The Pit, that it can significantly change the way you play the game. You get two new playable characters, one of which--the telekinetic Psion--is the reason for the pack's title. The second one is the first playable alien--the Tarka Ranger. Two new play modes are being added, one of them allows you to play indefinitely, the other--aptly called "Seriously? Mode"--delivers even higher difficulty level to the hardcore gamers that find the "Insane Mode" falling short of their masochistic expectations. There are ten new levels waiting to be explored, including the new vast biosphere environments. Even the gameplay mechanics experience an overhaul with the addition of XP and item "banking" system, allowing some boost for the starting characters. If you thought you knew The Pit, think again!

For more challenge and depth in your favorite Sci-Fi roguelike, grab Sword of the Stars: The Pit: MindGames DLC on GOG.com for only $4.99. You know you need it!

NOTE:
This version of the DLC works exclusively with the GOG.com DRM-free Sword of the Stars: The Pit game.

DLC, eh? Something tells me this is going to have a very bad rating.

I for once hate paid DLC, and I know many here do too.

G-Doc: One thing I'd like to add to the discussion is that our WebDev team is still working on a better, more seamless and friendly way of incorporating DLC to GOG.com page.
That's what I was waiting for, thanks a lot for the info! :)

yyahoo: Actually, I think that calling it an expansion would be highly beneficial. DLC has developed a highly negative connotation over the past couple years in more than just "a couple people's" minds. Even I can't help but think of Horse Armor when I see the letters "DLC".
Again, what's the point? So some people feel better about purchasing extra content for their game? Are we going to separate DLC into two categories? One for when the quantity of content warrants "expansion" and "DLC" for when it offers less? Who decides how much is enough? If it offers a new mode of gameplay but nothing else is it a "DLC" or an "expansion"?

Negative feelings or not you understand what DLC is, it's your own bias that predisposes you to lump them all in with "horse armor" and that is simply disingenuous.

We all know that DLC can be good or bad. Calling it an "expansion" just because it hearkens back to a time when we ostensibly agreed with the industry's business practices is just... silly, I really have no other word for it.

G-Doc: Just my personal observation. Move on ;-)
Woah... That was a bit harsh. There's practically no-one in this thread complaining.
Thank you GOG! I was wondering if I will see this expansion here after all that anti-DLC protests.
You are even faster than Steam :D Congrats!

Dang, somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning... Chill.

It's all about marketing. It can often be the difference between success and failure.
Normally, i hate this all modern "cut-content-buy-dlc" crap, but i'm glad that this expansion is available also for gog (not only steam) and i can buy it here (drm-free).

My tone was not meant to be hostile, text and all that. Read somewhere that 80% of people think the other person will understand their tone and only something like 20-30% actually do.

Anywho, if a developer wants to call it an expansion for marketing reasons I can understand that but it's probably still going to be DLC all the same unless they, for some reason, don't want to use the internet. Doing that also opens up criticisms that there isn't enough content to warrant the title. Even so, calling it an expansion for marketing purposes is really just indicative of our stubbornness as older gamers. The market and, more importantly, the infrastructure has changed and the industry has changed with it. It sucks that we're not all that relevant anymore but that's life.

That would be great, at the very least have them appear on the same download page than the original game, here they are all on different pages, all downloaded to different folders when using the downloaded, etc...

Ah, well, you accused me of having bias and being disingenuous. I am merely interpreting the perception out there held by more than a few. The truth is that perception is much more important that reality. I think calling this an expansion would be good marketing, especially to differentiate it from the truly bad DLCs out there (and admitting that they exist is not displaying any bias).

Eh? Isn't G-Doc referring to his own post?

Ehhh... perhaps he is. Just read to me like he was telling us to "move on".

It doesn't matter anyway.
I knew i should've bought The Pit when it was on sale. Ah, damn.

It's on sale now as $9.99 is the usual price for the base game. Hope that helps and doesn't totally look like I am trying to convince you to buy the game :P
