Arteveld: Reminds me of the time i bought a Dawn of War 'diamond collection' from CDP, a few months later they released another expansion, not so diamond anymore. Or Tropico 4, once the DLC storm was over, i bought it on a sale, and they released a new one just a week later. I'll wait for DLC'ed games to get a "complete" edition before buying.
avatar
Wesker: I bought 'Europa Universalis III Complete', but then they released two full-fledged add-ons. They still sell EU III Complete, but the actual complete edition is EU III Chronicles. :)
This. Seriously. Developers and/or publishers should be forbidden to use the "Complete" or "Final" words until all DLC that will EVER be developed and all patches that will EVER be released have been released.
avatar
Arteveld: Yeah, that's how i got Tropico 4. It pissed me off at first, but i was the only to blame really. But how do we make sure a certain edition is the 'final' one, and the game is 'done'?

Though, the "diamond" and "gold" editions was a pretty standard CDP term for the be all end all complete editions, DoW was an exception as it later turned out. [i just checked, the DoW was marked as "gold collection"], three dvd cases and a few booklets bound in a neat cardboard box.

Vitek: You need to wait several years, until the game is definitely abandoned, in the process paying much less then you would pay otherwise.

I personally after CK II DLC avalanche and EU III Complete and Completer editions am not touching EU IV even with ten foot pole until they start working on EU 5.
That makes two of us. Though to be fair, there is still a lot of gameplay left for EU 3 for me since I only put time aside to do one grand campaign play-through when the "Complete" edition was released. I have yet to play it on the "Chronicles-level Complete Edition" but I do know many of the tweaks I wished the game had when I was doing my play-through. So therefore who knows... I might be all "EU'ed"-out by the time EU 4 is finally, really, no-I-am-serious-this-time-I-swear-on-all-that-is-holy complete.

Good to know that we can trust GOG.com for complete/full editions... no wait...
In case you guys didn't read, it actually says "brand new expansion" not DLC. Not the same thing (remember the days when games actually had proper expansions? - very few do now. XCom Enemy Within is one, Civ V Gods & Kings and BNW is another).
So its a bit unfair to judge this expansion same way you judge DLC's.

Having said that, might have been an idea to give existing owners some sort of a discount, or bundle it with the base game and discount that

Yeah, and even proper expansions being called DLC (well, to be fair, they are, in fact, downloadable content, as is the full game itself) is one of several shifts in language I have trouble with (another is using "app" for full desktop software)... then again, I use "add-on" and "application" for everything, even the gun-packs and cellphone software, so I suppose I should soon be telling those meddling kids to get off my lawn... if I had one.
Japan is cool, I wish to travel there one day
Ew, I had the DLC blues last year after buying the "complete" editions of Civ V and Crusader Kings II, both awesome games but then less then a month later, bam new full expansions not included in the so-called "complete" editions. Bleh.

I really do want to play Omerta one of these days, but it will be after it settles its hash and finally crystallizes into a single entity. I've been burned on the DLC/Expansion thing one too many times.

I do understand why they do expansions afterwards, essentially rolling some of the profit of sales from the base game forwards into making new content they would not have been able to make otherwise, which they can then sell for more money. I just wish if you buy complete versions of something they remembered something about customer loyalty and rewarded those who had faith in the brand, that is a complete edition or gold edition or platinum or rainbow-gumdrop should frakkin stay complete in the future. Kind of a you got in early, congratulations! Not a you got in early, sucks to be you! /rant

Edit:
Okay, Mafiosos against the KKK sounds kind of fantastic.

ne_zavarj: I will wait for the release of the Platinum Edition in 2015 . :p
You should wait for The Almost Complete Titanium Edition instead, it will have the Cyborg Zombie Pirates from the Moon DLC. XD

assassin33: The Almost Complete Titanium Edition
That will be a Borderlands 2 edition .
This is not a DLC, but an expansion for the base game. Probably will add another few hours of content in the process. Can't see any reason for complaint.
My wife changes outfits every time we make love. She likes to seduce me into it and then makes me pay for it. It's the same woman, different outfit. I guess that's like DLC in a way... And it costs me the same amount or more every time. It's either a car, or new jewelry, or new shoes, clothes, make-up, and the list goes on and on and on.

Did a woman make this Omerta game?

Man, wow, sorry about that. I feel your pain.
So has anyone bought the expansion? played it with the base game?. AI improved?

Johnmourby: Well, let us hope that we here at GOG are now well accustomed to DLC and this wont cause the internet to explode again. (and also hope this DLC is of good value).

I feel that our collective attitude to Omerta has warmed up a little since the days it was the most hated game on GOG. It's certainly sold well since. And I think it sold at a decent pace during the insomnia promo.
I'm predicting low ratings regardless of quality. Let us hope devs learn some lesson from that: adult gamers (who must pay for their own beer and their own games) feel cheated when they have to buy several downloadable addons to get the full experience of a game.
