Source. Accounts no longer needed to buy games? That sounds like gaming free of DRM at its finest!
What's a "widget"? :P

In this case: a small piece of code a developer can use to sell the game via their own site, except everything is handled by Desura in the background (meaning the game developer won't have to set up and manage a storefront and the neccesary infrastructure). Humble have had them for a good while (the widgets were available before the Humble Store was revealed).

Interesting. I wonder what cut they are going to take from it. If it is only email based instead of account based, then it is more aching to BitMicro than Humble Widget. Though, I hope it will still be possible to claim purchases on Desura from a Widget also.
While I'd be interested to see how authorization would work in these cases, it does make a lot of sense. After all, accounts are only necessary in this context for the service provider's sake, so why should the user be the one jumping through the hoops to satisfy those requirements?

That's effin awesome. I wish GOG would make it so you didn't need to come to the site to download/access games.
Hello, Desura Developer here:

@amok: if you use an email that is registered to a desura account i do believe the games get auto added to the account. Also developers get a greater cut from selling via the widget and any user can embed it.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

How do you compare to Humbles cut :)

(blatantly ignoring things such as NDA's)

Would this be retroactive? If someone purchased a game and then later set up a Desura account, would the prior purchase be added?

Ok, just talked to the web dev. When you buy a game using the widget it will send you an email with a link that you can use to link it to your desura account. This can be done at any time and wont be automatic.
seems great!
