The quest for coin and cleavage!

The Bard's Tale, the shining pinnacle of comedy among cRPG, bundled with its three classic DOS-era predecessors, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 24 hours!

Let's talk about career choices in fantasy realms. You can be a knight, always overburdened by his full plate armor, never able to sneak up on his foes. Plus, your honor code won't allow you to take money for your deeds of valor. You can take the path of wizardry, dooming yourself to all the health hazards that come with handling all the poisonous ingredients needed to cast the simplest of spells. Not to mention the smell! Having your pockets always full of bat dung, just in case you need to cast a casual fireball, never made anyone popular with the ladies. Rangers? Sure, you get to spend much time outdoors, which is supposed to be healthy, but trust me: a lifetime of sleeping in a bedroll on the damp forest floor will leave you with a hell of rheumatism in the old age. A proper bed is a much wiser choice. Even more so, if it's kept warm by a frivolous girl. Some coin is always good, too. My advice--forget all other professions, grab a lute, and be a rockstar. Um--I mean: a bard.

The Bard's Tale delivers solid cRPG gameplay, a vast fantasy realm to explore, tons of quests to perform, and hundreds of items to loot. By all means this is a fully-fledged role playing game, but that's not what it's famous for. Brilliant comedy is where this game truly shines among all other titles in this genre. With excellent writing and fantastic voicing done by Cary Elwes (of The Princess Bride fame) as the Bard, and a gaming voiceover veteran, Tony Jay as the Narrator. There's an extra treat for the die-hard old-school computer RPG fans included with this release as well: the classic Bard's Tales 1, 2, and 3 DOS-era hard-as-nails games.

A fantasy land full of adventure, humor, gold, girls, and moderate danger that wouldn't pose much threat to a battle-hardened adventurer, awaits you in The Bard's Tale, for only $3.99 on GOG.com. Don't wait, because the 60% off discount offer lasts only until Tuesday, October 15, at 9:59AM GMT. Don't forget: with your purchase, you'll receive a FREE copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. That's two classic action RPGs for less than half the price of one!

gandalf.nho: Hum, already have this one in Steam. Buy or not buy again in GOG, that's the question?

tinyE: What's the difference?
DRM.

lugum: Really, no seperate installer for the old games? that is bad and unnecessary.
Even if that is creating a dupe, it's not like those games are big.
Indeed - it would be nice if GOG would negotiate possible standalone releases for the three games (ideally as bonuses) with inXile. I assume from inXile's inclusion of these three games following their self-publishing of the game that they now have full ownership of the Bard's Tale IP, so I can't imagine it would be a problem on any format.

Although, the biggest problem is likely to be with the Apple IISG emulator that inXile used, so it's possible that the DOS versions may need to be bundled instead of the superior IISG versions (at least for 1 & 2).

Indeed, which is why I picked it up again despite already having it for Android AND on Steam.

Worth it for the original 3 games.
Steam updated the new Bard's Tale recently with widescreen support. Has that update reached GOG's version or is it planned to?

This should be interesting. My monthly quota on spending renews itself at midnight EST which means I should be able to buy this just in time to take advantage of the sale. Of course my monthly bandwidth doesn't reset itself until the 25th so I'll have to wait till then to reset that but when I do I'll have it ready for download. :D
would pick this up if I wasn't expecting to be burnt out after finishing my current batch of rpgs
Good promo with lots of bonuses.

You're probably burnt out because you are staying up too late gaming, when you have to go to work or school the next day?

Late, looks like 12.40 am when you posted your message or there abouts :)

Nice promo, thanks GOG!
All about them Bardz.
Too good to pass up, since it also includes the original. And here I was trying to play through my backlog, not add to it...

Wait, it's actually possible to work through a GoG fueled backlog?
I thought that the first (old) Bard's Tale game was awful; the maps were huge, empty, and boring, compared to, for example, Might and Magic, where you were constantly stumbling across hints, miscellaneous messages, magical pools, and other events to enliven the gameplay.

The new one was fun for awhile, where "awhile" is maybe a third of the length of the game.

Just not a fan of the series all around, I guess.

Yes, if one maintains the same degree of optimism as Sisyphus.
Bought it the day you got it. Also for the old Bard's Tale which I came about two thirds finishing back in the day. Trouble is I have so many RPG's from you guys I need to live to two hundred years old!
